i have never hated anyone in a story more than i hate a good majority of those parents but especially Renee and Melanie's mom

I woke up at 5am to see if this was posted, so glad it was. Thank you for writing, I’m sure a lot of us has felt the way Melanie did about our weight. Just took the love of someone else to help us see ourselves and nothing wrong with us.

Please give us a happy ending.

Melanie’s mother easily ranks in my top five list of vilest, filthiest, nastiest fictional characters ever!! Screaming silently in impotent rage at someone who doesn’t exist. And that after some of the kindest, most loving, soul warming scenes ever between Melanie and Sandy. Boy you sure know how to work my emotions with words…. I am glad the Mom scene happened this chapter, along with other encounters. Really hoping for peace, love and happiness much more in the final chapter (tho still wanting resolution on several issues ofc). I feel so sad for Kaylin , and Dani. What gets me most about these so called righteous Godly people who practice so much hate towards so many is that I feel they do it primarily because they believe God hates them and it’s their ticket into Heaven, even if it means kicking their children into the street or driving them to suicide. How twisted is a mind that can believe that? Excellent chapter

One might be tempted to say the antagonists' cruelty is over the top and on the nose, but no. That's just Carolina Republicans. I lived in western NC for 3 years, that's just what they're like. Anyway, still a wonderful story, I am still in love with these characters, especially the young people showing that bigotry is not always inherited, even from the cruelest parents

This series is so much more than simple erotica (though that’s been wonderfully HOT). Throughout it’s been a powerfully drawn and realistic commentary about the trials same-sex love still has to endure, even today. I myself know from personal experience about blind and hateful religious bigotry. JC, I’m crossing my fingers that you can land the series on a hopeful note!

The storyline you’ve created within “Beautiful” resonates as dramatic commentary — both social commentary and personal revelation. It is also so richly character driven, and not just the “good guys”. The creation of believable, nuanced characters is a hallmark of all your writing and a very good reason to return and reread each. That and I’m a near hopeless romantic.

I endorse everything Migbirtd says. I does reflect the supposed "Christians" that seem to try to repress everyone that does not agree with them.

Of all the bigoted characters in your stories, i feel Melanie's mom is hands down the biggest BITCH that you have ever created in a story. She cares nothing about Melanie nor Paige. Her only concern is how the public will react, and that it will cost her son votes. I really hope Melanie very publicaly confronts both her mom and Renee Perry and her husband. That the Senator knows what his wife is up to, and tries to help her is so wrong. Elected officials are sworn to up hold the public good. Not to use their office to advance a private agenda, I know that this is how most elected officials act, but it's what is wrong in politics. Early on I felt Adrienne was a bitch as well but she is just caught in her mom's BS. I hope she helps Melanie to stop Renee. She knows that what Coach Dalton wanted has made her a better player, maybe she needs to make that point in a statement to the press that include her moms personal slander agenda of the coach.

We can give those horrible acting’s names, bigotry or else just name it, but we can not change them …. So we just have to care of ourselves ….. the tragedy is the the trust which comes with a hurrican like Ms Perry has created ….. a former lovely community changes drastically just of one persons acting …. Since humans beginnings we had just one steady thing, WAR and we killed billions, even civilians and then we have those homosexuals abuses in the so called christian community and all this doesn’t count ….. and one lesbian or homosexual partnership is breaking all this into a WAR ….. unfortunately this is truly happen and its sooooo sad to say, the others those bigots are human too ….. we call us Homo Sapien, but we are far away

Bigotry sucks but I feel sure Melanie, Sandy, and Paige will thrive in spite of it. It may be the end of Melanie's relationship with her mother, but that would seem to be a good thing. I hope Renee gets the humiliation that she deserves.

Stories like this one always remind me of the differences between Bonobo and Chimpanzee societies - and both of these primate societies are genetically very close to humans. That being said, I don't know if I will ever live long enough to see humankind finally realize that monogamy and patriarchy are not the ONLY forms of society available for human beings. Instead, lately we seem to be sliding away from this realization and moving toward hatred instead of acceptance of anything other than marriage, monogamy, heterosexuality, and gender assigned at birth and unchangeable thereafter. For some reason (maybe religion?), people seem to feel that their way of life is the only one acceptable for everybody else. What ever happened to the philosophy that "my personal business is none of your business" - "you live your life and I will live mine".

Dr beulahthemick; One of the best stories I've ever read on here, sexy, moving and so well developed, can't wait for the final chapter. Her family, especially her so-called mother is a total bitch, I do hope she (the mother) gets totally screwed. Worth far more than five stars.

I just want a happy ending for everyone including Kaylin and Dani. Which i know probably isn't possible given the circumstances. But ffs, Melanie's mom and Renee need to be put in their place.

I'm positively surprised with Melanie. After her mom got wind of this whole mess, I was sure that Melanie would falter and step away from Sandy. But I'm glad that Melanie is standing up for herself and Sandy. I still think there's going to be a temporary separation between our lovely couple and I think one of them is going to break it off in order to protect Paige. I don't know why but I think Sandy is going to be the one to let go.

What's going on with Kaylin and Dani is so unfair. I hope their situation gets better.

That…gave me anxiety while reading. I’m worried for Kaylin. I realized I was bisexual last November, and…my dad might be ok with it, but my mom? I have no idea. Im hoping that everything works out for Melanie and Sandy. They deserve happiness.

Another great installment. Beautifully crafted, with characters that feel real. I live ITB, and although we have more than enough Ellis’ & Perrys, we have plenty of Harrisons & Lena’s familys too. The variety of how characters are written is well thought-out.

I appreciate the kindness that Melanie shows when talking to the team, especially Adrienne. Everyone (in the story and out) needs to hear this, even for hetero relationships such as Will & Anna.

I also appreciate the kindness that Sandy shows Melanie when introducing her to new experiences. Dressing for a new partner is so scary, and Sandy has the right attitude.

The mother. THE MOTHER. (Shudder) excessively villainous tirade, but people with such sharp tongue and below-thr-belt kickers do exist. What a biatch.

Can't wait to see their comeuppance. Hope Melanie's Dad divorces her, and the press uncovers something worse, much more scandalous AND factual from her/the Senator's recent past.

As I look back over your string of poignant stories, this one, IIRC, plunges most deeply into parent-child (and more particularly mother-daughter) relationships. The stark contrast between Melanie with Paige and Melanie with her own mother is soul-searing. The episode with the vibrators for Paige and especially Melanie's presentation and note touched me deeply. Even though/when we try so hard and with such good intentions, we inflict emotional scars upon our children, and then there are moments like this of sheer loving brilliance. By contrast, the encounter with her own mother wrought havoc on her psyche. I wanted her to stand up for her self and her lover and her love in a flashing confrontation, and Melanie -- poor, scarred, overwhelmed Melanie -- can barely hold her own. In the end, all she can muster is "No" and "Get out!" I hope it's enough and that in the final installment she will be able to stand up to her mother and all the Renee Perrys out there.

On another note, let me observe how much I admire your ability to weave in narrative descriptions of athletic events from an insider's perspective. You've done it with tennis and soccer and now with field hockey. I'm not much of sports fan, but I enjoy your game narratives.

I know you've written the end already, but what I'd love to see is Adrienne giving Paige a passionate kiss in front of Renee and her husband after their last playoff game.

It is so unfortunate that even today, almost 50 years after ERA in the US, there are still lots of people who feel their's is there only way and anyone different is a pariah, if not worse. As difficult as this topic may have been to write about, this was an amazing chapter; one of your best in the series on my opinion.

Looking forward to see if some characters get their comeuppance and Sandy and Melanie get to be a couple in the closing chapter.

i am so impressed by the storytelling you have doen. You confirm in all the stories I read so far our society (even in The Netherlands) still need a lot of change before we are accepting of loving in all its form. I know you focus on lesbian love, which got me hooked, but any queer love would warrant a story.. I imagine one of the girls in the team is actually a transgirl, strugling even harder to come out in the narrow minded world. Would Melanie support her too? Way more than 5 stars from me. A fan.

As usual you right a story that shows people’s idiotic beliefs. People should be able to date, love who they want without being judge by anyone. Keep writing your fantastic stories.

But bravo as always. It takes a lot of talent and care to make characters (the mother and Renee) that are that unlikable and still seem realistic. Unfortunately there are too many people like that. They'd get along well with Taylor's and Cindy's fathers.

I kind of figured Adrienne wouldn't have been on board with everything her mom was doing and was just trying to live up to impossible expectations, she's an interesting foil to Melanie.

This story has been difficult to read logistically. The time between the postings were long enough to require the previous episodes. The story definitely reaches or surpasses the standards the author has set with his other stories. I have read and reread every chapter and I have no clue how this is going to turn out. It is a shame that our Society has degenerated to this point. I have enjoyed your story and it has raised emotions in me that are intense. As usual thanks for sharing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

JC - I had to sit with this one for a few days before leaving a note. I don't think this is going to end up a favorite of mine (not that that should matter to you, of course), probably Hero Worship will stay there. Although, this strongly echoes a theme from Nanny Sarah, Tennis Star, and Hero Worship, which is the desire for allies, acceptance. It's there to a lesser degree in the others (although the MC in 'Mitch' certainly had to deal with her own preconceptions). It's this hopefulness, I think, that sets your stories apart to me. As my acquaintance SiteNonsite likes to say, 'the sex is the story', and you do not fail in that department, but always there is the optimism in the background. I'm certainly looking forward to how you tie a bow on this. I'd have loved to see Melanie's mom get more than she got, but perhaps that's yet to come?

Wow! I was not expecting the vitriol to come out of Mel’s mom. But in hindsight, a woman who is dedicated to wrangling in the political sphere must in essence think the worst of everybody. I can hardly wait for the final piece to come out. What I would like to see is Renee Perry get sued for defamation of character, and her brother lose his supporters for the Senate. That would really make my day!

So far Dani and Kaylin seem to be at a crossroads. Maybe things will work out for them. My crystal ball seems to realize that today is Monday and is having a fit and being contrary. Sheesh!

I loved it! Melanie's mom's character is so well done! I was seething at the things she was saying to Melanie. I'm hoping Melanie will really fight back in Ch 6, but it's a very hard thing to do in real life. So glad to see how Adrienne is conflicted and starting to form her own opinions with the unveiling of how some people can be. Excellent writing, again. Can't wait to see how you've masterfully crafted the ending. Ch 6 will be, what, 10 pages??

JCMcN -- thank you again, and, since I was raised in cowboy country, you can be sure that your followers are literally "chomping at the bit" for Chapter 6. I like all your work, but this one hits a chord for me. I mentioned previously that the inclusion of "Rubenesque" Melanie as a main character and focus of passion was commendable, as many of us are not "hour glass blah blah blah." But that does not diminish passion, though it may inhibit expression for the reasons you put forth. The narrow often irrationally vicious homophobic sentiments are echoed in many stories. Enuf. I have a dedicated browser tab just for you to "bring the horses home." Given the lines laid, I am hoping for the best, though I fear greatly for poor Kaylin. I have seen the deep hurt that can come from such bigotry. I always remember that these are just "stories," but behind them are real souls struggling to find love free of shame and retribution. I decided to wait with reading till all parts had been posted and now it's costing my my night's rest. Absolutely breathtaking, wonderful tale! Straight through to the last part!

It really is a beautiful story of highs and lows; sweet, caring moments between the ladies and the children, balanced by vicious encounters with both friend and foe. Though, perhaps using ‘friend’ in its broadest possible sense; I could feel my blood pressure rising exponentially while reading the scene with The Mother. It’s hard to break free and stand up for yourself when you’ve been under the sway of a psychological abuser and bully all your life.

At least we got to a point where the situation is openly discussed by the parents at large, which feels like somewhat of a miscalculation by Renee; never open a malicious issue to public debate if you can’t be certain that enough people will be reaching for pitchforks.

And then finally — and a little sadly — it’s time for the last chapter…
