As Claire Doyle entered the motel and booked a room for the remainder of the night a second car swung past the building and pulled to a halt at a discreet distance. The car remained for a time, a time chosen courtesy of experience rather than any conscious calculation on the part of its driver. Only when the driver was satisfied did the car finally start up and return the way that it had came.
