Roki

"How are the repairs coming, Roki?" Berta asked.

I was on a trolley underneath one of the power regulators. I pulled myself out and saw my captain looking down at me.

"Nearly there," I said as I wiped the sweat from my brow.

We had taken heavy damage during an attack and had landed on a planet to conduct repairs. As I was part of the engineering department I was kept busy. We had been here for a month now.

The planet had no name but some of our crew were referring to it as Desolation. It was a fitting name as there was nothing of note here. Just barren rock and flat horizons. It had a breathable atmosphere though which made things more bearable.

Berta told me to keep her informed and left me to my work.

As I continued I thought about the events leading up to our stranding.

A woman called Sakura had come aboard as our new second officer. She'd had ulterior motives though. Emrah had told me she suspected Sakura of being up to something. We worked together to try and uncover her plot, but in the end, we failed. She kidnapped Emrah and crippled our ship. After that ships began hunting us. We spent weeks avoiding them until they cornered us and we had to fight our way out. The Siren's kiss had sustained heavy damage and had to land here to repair.

I missed Emrah greatly and hoped she was alive out there somewhere. Others in the crew assured me she would be fine. "She's a survivor." Berta had told me.

That was true, but with no way to even look for her, I couldn't help but imagine the worst.

************

Desolation was a hot and arid planet. There was not a drop of water on the entire surface. Some of the crew had constructed a makeshift camp next to the ship. Without power inside it was more preferable than living on the ship.

I didn't mind the heat, but some were struggling.

As I descended the ramp to get some rest in my tent I saw Martina approaching me. She was wearing a small pair of shorts and a sports bra. I had never really liked her. There was a butch quality to her that did nothing for me. She was very aggressive too and kind of scared me a little. When I first joined the ship she had made a clumsy pass at me. Thankfully she had not tried again.

"Roki," she said with a smile. "How's the ship coming on?"

I shrugged and told her we might have power within the week.

"Want one?" she asked as she pulled a cigar from her pocket.

"I don't smoke," I said. It always surprised me that someone who was always working out would also smoke too.

"How about a drink instead? I have a bottle in my tent."

I laughed and told her that I had to get some rest.

"I've got a bed too," she said as she lit her cigar.

"Why don't you go find a rock to beat up," I said and left her to her thoughts.

*************

I was sharing my tent with a girl called Ava. She was one of our newest recruits. She had been born on Ferrin and the heat didn't seem to be affecting her at all.

I told her about my encounter with Martina.

"Yeah, she tried it on with me the other day. I think she's just bored with nothing to do."

Martina was our weaponsmith and often led any assaults we had to do. Here she was at a loose end.

"She did say she had a bottle of booze though."

This made Ava's eyes light up and she complained that it had been too long since she'd had a proper drink.

"Berta wants to keep us sober and alert."

We chatted for a bit and then she asked me if I was missing Emrah.

"I just hope she is safe."

***********

I was woken by Ava shaking my shoulder. It was still dark outside.

"It's not morning is it?"

She shook her head. "We should steal that bottle from Martina."

I was still groggy and told her to go back to sleep.

She was persistent and shook me again.

"Come on Roki, it's not fair she gets some and we don't."

I sat up and rubbed my eyes.

"The last time you got drunk you ended up in the brig."

"We don't have to drink it all, come on."

It would be nice to pull one over on Maritna.

"Okay, then," I said. "You gotta stay here. If Berta catches us she'll put you in the brig again."

***********

It was dark and the camp was quiet. The only illumination came from one of the moons and some temporary lights that had been constructed.

As I snaked through the tents I heard some soft moans coming from one. I stopped and listened for a second. I didn't know who they were but they sounded like they were having fun.

The last person I had slept with was Sakura. I wished it had been Emrah. It had been so long since I had even kissed her.

I found Martina's tent, it was with the rest of the officers. It was a little bigger than mine and would only have Martina inside.

Unlike our quarters on the ship, these tents didn't have locks.

I slipped inside easily and silently. I was crouched and I waited until my eyes adjusted. The tent smelled of stale cigar smoke and sweat.

Martian was fast asleep on her cot. She was naked and lying on her back. As I approached her I couldn't help but stare at her body. She had a deep and I could see every definition of her muscles. There was a peaceful look on her face and I felt a little guilty at looking at her like this. I was intruding on her afterall.

As I looked at her I wondered what it would be like to kiss her. It was just an idle thought, but one that made my heart race a little. I knew she desired me, but I had never shared those feelings. Seeing her like this, vulnerable and peaceful stoked something in me. I knew once she woke her peacefulness would turn to lust. I'd heard once from another girl that she was a very aggressive lover. My eyes couldn't help but move to her sex. She had a small tuft of hair above her labia.

I shook my head snapping me out of the thought. I was here for alcohol. I squatted and looked under her bed. There it was lying on a mound of clothes. I inched forward and grabbed hold of it. As the liquid inside swished Martina stirred.

I held my breath as she rolled over. Her back was facing me now and I could see clearly that she had once been flogged.

I wasn't going to push my luck any further and crept out of the tent.

**********

Ava was full of smiles when I returned. As she promised we didn't drink it all. By morning there was half of it left and we both had sore heads.

I went to work inside the Siren's Kiss while Ava went to her job. She was part of the team that was welding the damaged hull.

It was tedious work. I had to replace burnt-out wiring that had overloaded during the attack. As there was no internal power I had to use a head torch. At least it was cool on the ship.

I'd been in here an hour when I heard footsteps approaching. It was Martina and she didn't look happy.

"Did you lose that fight with the rock?"

She didn't smile or laugh.

"You took my wine didn't you?"

I shook my head and told her I didn't know what she was talking about.

"I only told you about it, no one else could have taken it."

"I hate to say it," I said. "You are in a camp full of pirates. Hardly the most honest bunch."

She laughed now but in a condescending way.

"You're a little rat, Roki."

"Fuck you," I said under my breath.

"I'm still your superior," she said, as her anger began to rise. Then she threatened to go to Berta.

"Oh right really, you're gonna bother the Captain cos you lost a bottle of wine? What do you even do on this ship Martina?"

"I look after the internal security of the ship and that includes catching little thieves."

I stood up now and wasn't going to take any more of her nonsense.

"Security," I yelled. "Since I've been here, I've been attacked by a hostage, and Emrah got kidnapped by a mad woman. What's Berta even paying you for?"

The frustration was building in her eyes and it looked like she wanted to hit me. Thankfully she didn't and told me to return the bottle tonight or she'd come and fetch it herself.

She then stormed off leaving me to my work. Being on this planet had really frayed everyone's nerves.

*************

I told Ava what had happened when I returned to the tent.

"That's not good Roki. Maybe we can fill it up with coolant to make it look full again."

I shook my head and told her that would probably kill her.

"So what are you gonna do?"

"Me?" I asked. "It was your idea."

"I know but I've been in the brig once. You will have to sort it."

I liked Ava but she had really dropped me in it. I wondered what Emrah would do in this situation. Then I realised that Emrah wouldn't have stolen it in the first place.

"Why don't you sneak back into her tent tonight and return it?"

"Yeah," I said, sarcastically. "I don't think she's going to be sleeping tonight. Probably laying there now grinding her teeth."

Ava laughed. I had to laugh too, It was a silly thing to be getting so worked up over. With the ship practically dead that's all we could do these days. There had been a massive fight the other day between three girls over a missing pair of panties.

"Best just to fess up," I said.

"Yeah or just say you found it on the ground."

"That's a better idea," I said and picked up the wine.

*************

The sun was dipping on the horizon as I made my way back to Martina's tent.

I did feel a bit bad about having a go at her like I did. No one blamed her for what Sakura did.

She was sitting on her cot sharpening a knife when I entered through the flap.

"Bit of a cliche don't you think," I said gesturing to the knife.

She cocked her head to the side and asked what I wanted.

"I found this," I said and held up the bottle.

"I'm sure you did," she said quietly.

"Listen about earlier I'm sorry for calling you a bitch."

She sighed and told me that I didn't call her that name.

"Well, whatever I said, sorry."

"Thanks," she said and told me to bring it over.

When I handed it to her she asked if some spilled out on the way here.

"Must have," I said with a smile.

She uncorked it with her teeth and took a large swig.

"It hasn't been watered down," I said under my breath.

She laughed and handed it to me.

"You might as well help me finish it."

I was glad to have sorted it out and took a drink.

"So what's the knife for, it's not for a rat is it?"

She chuckled. "No Roki, not for a rat."

"What then?"

"Just bored," she said and sheathed it into her boot.

"We'll be out of here soon," I said and took another drink.

We chatted for a while about the repairs as we shared the wine.

Then she took out one of her cigars and offered it to me.

I shook my head and told her I didn't smoke.

"Go on try it."

"Okay," I said and took it. As soon as I inhaled I started to cough.

She laughed and told me I was soft.

"I'm not soft," I said through my coughing fit. "I killed a man once."

"No, when?"

"At that mining colony, we raided."

"You never said anything about that. What happened."

"he was trying to fuck me." The smoke had really made me light-headed and I had to sit on the cot. "I whacked him with a wrench."

"I'll always remember my first kill."

"Yeah, what happened?"

"It was on the first ship I was on. I was the new girl, very fresh, very green. My crewmates thought it would be fun to get me blind drunk in a bar and let the locals run a train on me."

"Run a train what's that?"

"Basically a gang bang, but more ordered. They got me pretty tipsy, but then I kind of figured out what they were doing. The bartender tried to stop me from leaving so I split his head open with a bottle. He hit his head on the way down and died."

"That's horrible."

"It was, but my crewmates didn't fuck with me after that. You're lucky to be on this ship Roki. There are a lot of pirate ships out there that aren't so nice."

**************

Martina had told me that there were pirate ships out there that weren't so nice. At the time I believed her and hoped that I would never end up on one. The universe had different plans for me as I was now preparing to board one. It was called the Spartan, and commanded by a woman called Talia.

It had been a long time since I was on the planet we had named Desolation and as I walked through the docking tunnel with Emrah I wished I was still there.

Emrah had told me not to worry, but I could see the uncertainty in her eyes.

I was surprised when I saw Talia. She wasn't much younger than me. I was expecting a much more firesome woman. She had a scar on her cheek and a tattoo, but she looked fragile in some ways. The man with her didn't and was a hulking brute of a man.

Emrah and her talked while I tried to look imposing.

Then Talia asked us aboard. I didn't want to go, but Emrah was and I would follow.

She had always looked out for me, but as we made our way onto the ship I knew I had to keep my wits about me.

Our guns were removed and the large man called Dekon searched me. He even checked my boots for hidden knives. We were separated as Talia wanted to speak to Emrah in private.

I had to wait by the docking tunnel. The Marines from Earth were at the other and I knew I could shout for help if I needed it.

The man called Dekon waited with me and I tried to engage him in conversation.

"So the Spartan is a pretty big ship, huh."

He ignored me and stood silently.

We waited there for what seemed like an age when a woman approached us. She was tall and reminded me of Martina. That is where the similarities ended. This woman was a physical specimen. She had broad shoulders and thick powerful thighs. Her hair was blonde and tied in a long braid. She wasn't wearing dirty coveralls but an ice white body glove.

"I'm Alina," she said.

"Roki," I replied.

"I know, follow me."

I took one look down the tunnel, and back to safety before I went after her.

"Are we going to see Emrah?"

"Yes," she said with a cold voice.

Nothing about this ship seemed friendly the walls were dirty and everything looked unkempt. She had no weapon on her though and I had to trust her for the time being. As we passed some of the crew one man gave me a low whistle as I passed. I ignored it, but it made my skin crawl.

We stopped on a low deck in front of a sealed hatch.

"This is called the rec room," she said and opened it.

Inside was a crude bar area and a few couches. There was a young girl behind the makeshift bar then I noticed in the centre of the room was a low stage with a pole coming out of it. There was no Emrah in sight.

"You brought me for a drink?" I asked.

"You are to wait here until Emrah returns."

"Returns? Returns from where?"

"Talia has taken her off the ship she will be back at some point."

I shrugged. "Well if she's gone then I will return to my ship then. " I made a move to leave but this woman grabbed me and pushed me against the wall.

"You are to stay here little girl," she said. "Those are Talia's orders."

"I don't give a fuck," I said and tried to wriggle free.

She slapped me hard across the face. The pain and surprise froze me to the spot.

"Learn your place," she hissed inches away from my face. "You belong to us now," she said

I shook my head but she just nodded.

"Fuck you," I muttered.

I thought she was going to slap me again but she didn't instead she leaned closer to me and ran her tongue up my cheek. I couldn't look her in the eyes and cast mine down.

"Good," she said and tossed me into the room.

"Make sure she doesn't leave," she said to the other girl and slammed the hatch closed.

***********

I wiped the saliva off my face with my cuff and asked the girl what was going on.

"I don't know," she said in a low voice.

I introduced myself and she told me her name was Hana.

"Is there a way out of here, Hana?"

She shook her head.

"Is there a comms device?"

Again he shook her head.

She was no help.

"Aren't you a member of this crew?"

I'm a pleasure girl she said quietly.

"Well, I'm not I said and started to look around for a way out. What I hadn't noticed before was part of the room was curtained off. I went over to see what was behind them. To my despair, all I saw were cots with stained mattresses on them.

"What is this place?"

"It's the rec room," she said.

"I know that, but what is its purpose?"

"For the men to relax and for the girls to entertain them."

That wasn't the answer that filled me with hope. I had to get in touch with the Siren's Kiss.

Hana didn't move from behind the bar and I checked there next. All I could find was a small fruit knife. It was better than nothing.

"You won't be able to get away from these people," Hana said.

"Watch me," I said and shoved the knife into my boot.

I had to get her on my side and I asked her if she wanted to escape with me.

She didn't answer and just looked at her feet. I tried to reassure her bay putting my hand on her back but she cringed away.

Then I heard the door being unlocked. For a second, I thought it was Alina coming back to take me to Emrah. It wasn't and the door was opened by a man.

"That's Gustav," Hana said softly with a tremble in her voice.

He looked over at us and smiled.

"Who's your new friend Hana?"

"Her name is Roki, she isn't to be touched."

"Oh, really," he said and came up to the bar. "You're from the Siren's Kiss aren't you?"

"Something like that," I said with a smirk.

"Alina told me to look after her," Hana said.

"And is she?" Gustav asked me.

"Well she hasn't offered me a drink yet," I said which made him laugh.

"You got yourself a little smart mouth haven't you."

"That's what they say."

"Okay, Roki," he said with a chuckle, "Why don't you get on that pole and show me how you dance?"

This guy didn't look like he should be here and was just pushing his luck. I knew how to handle men like him.

"Why don't you shove it up your ass."

He guffawed and told me I was funny.

"I think you should go back to your post, Gustav," Hana said.

He shrugged and told her all they doing was waiting for the battle.

"Thought I'd come for a drink." He didn't look like he enjoyed being talked to like that and he reached behind the bar and grabbed a bottle.

He took a long swing and then offered it to me.

"You look like you need loosening up."

With the bar between us and Hana here I felt somewhat safe, but I didn't like how he was looking at me. He took another drink and asked me to take off my shirt.

I noticed that he had left the outer door open. If I could just get back to the tunnel I thought. He was a large and intimidating man, and fighting him wasn't something I could really do. Perhaps if Hana had been more eager we could have overpowered him, but she showed no interest in getting out of there.

"Come on," he said, "I bet you have cute tits."

"Leave her," Hana said

He snapped back at her and told her to watch her mouth.

It was time to get out of this madness.

"Why don't you make yourself comfortable I said. "Maybe I could join you for a drink after all." As I spoke I played with the top button of my shirt.

He nodded as he knew what I was offering, but he didn't move instead he offered his hand out for me.

"You don't have to," Hana said softly.

"It's fine," I said, I like a little fun too.

I let him take my hand and he led me over to the couch area. He wasn't rough and didn't take a strong hold of me. As far as he knew I was up for this. He didn't sit on the couch and took me onto the small stage.

"This is where you go," he said and pushed me gently against the metal pole.

"Don't I get a drink?" I asked playfully.

He nodded and put the bottle to my mouth. He poured a large amount in my mouth and I only just managed to stop myself from choking.

"It's strong," I said, feeling it make my head swirl.
