"Maybe. I just wish I could get girls I just met to go into my room with me. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't do anything that would send them running from the place in tears."

After a while, one asked, "That was Jon Major's girlfriend, wasn't it?"

"It used to be. That's a pretty shitty thing to do to a frat brother. Jon's going to be humiliated when he gets back."

Noelle ran down the sidewalk so fast she fell, hurting her knee. She got up, ran, and fell again, hurting her elbow. She fell going up the stairs to her sorority. She ran in the door, slammed it behind her, and started sobbing loudly.

Two of the sorority girls were in the front room. "Are you alright, honey?" one asked.

Noelle felt a surge of nausea. She had to throw up - now. She ran to the shower room, gagging as she went. Her two sorority sisters followed her to the shower room and found her vomiting violently into the toilet. They figured - correctly - that Noelle had too much to drink. One of them held Noelle's hair out of the way so it didn't get splashed with vomit. She gagged again and again, continuing even after her stomach was completely empty. Looking into the toilet, she saw it was full of stale beer and fresh cum. She let out an anguished wail and began crying so forcefully that the sorority sisters were a bit scared. This didn't seem like a normal case of too much to drink.

Then one of them noticed a smear of blood on the tail of Noelle's blouse. Something awful had happened. They called an ambulance and rode to the hospital with Noelle, holding her hand as the doctor took her vital signs, drew blood, and asked questions. The tests showed the presence of alcohol and cocaine. They discovered rectal bleeding, proving Noelle had been brutalized. A nurse took swaps of her vagina and rectum. Seeing what looked like dried semen in Noelle's hair, the nurse swabbed that, too.

A police detective interviewed Noelle, who gave a fairly complete description of what had happened. Her sorority sisters sat beside her hand as she related the story, and they were appalled by the attack on Noelle. Afterward the detective said it was very possible that they'd file charges against Lodge, but that his lawyers would argue that Noelle's behavior showed she was willing to exchange sex for cocaine. Going to trial would inevitably force Noelle to be victimized again.

"We've got to call her parents," one of the sisters said. "They need to come get her."

"And we've got to call her boyfriend," the other said. "We've got to call Jon."

"I'm so sorry that happened," Dr. Robins said. "How awful for Noelle."

"It was as awful as it could possibly be," Jon said. "She spent three days in a psychiatric ward because they were afraid she'd hurt herself. Her parents took her home, and she never went back to school after the holidays."

"Did you see her again?" Robins asked.

"Yes. I flew straight to see her in the hospital. She was obviously very traumatized. And she didn't want to see me because she knew she had betrayed me. I had no trouble understanding that she was the victim here, but it hurt knowing that someone I'd thought was my girlfriend would willingly do cocaine with another guy, then fuck him. I hadn't imagined she could do anything like that."

"Alcohol makes people behave in ways they'd never behave if they were sober," Robins said.

"I know that. I ached for Noelle. I wished I could do something for her. It was just a nightmare. And it wasn't over."

"No? More happened?" Robins asked.

"Things went pretty crazy when I went back to school. My parents said I could go to another college if I wanted, but I decided to go back. I wanted to kick Andy Lodge's ass."
