What's up with the shift in tense, from present to past?

Are they in the Phil? What is the risk of reading 50 Shades on campus? Is it a Religious college? What “authorities”? It seems odd that they start kissing in the classroom and then just leave. The narrative flip flops back and forth from present to past tense, as though the writer does not know the difference. Odd story. Is the entire thing a dream, or just the part on Sunday? It all seems jumbled and repetitive.
