"Here's the second thing: if you have feelings for Knox Sartelle, you need to sort those out. Don't string Ethan along while you do so. You're too good a woman to do that to a good dude like young Mr. Ross. I know all this is new to you, so please let me look out for you on this one. I love you, Eden. I commend your taste, but please think about their feelings in all this too."
"What if I don't know, Andy? I've known Knox for literally my whole life. He's been a great friend. When his mom was killed by a drunk lawyer asshole from Boston, I was crushed. She was such a great lady, and a wonderful friend to my mom. She and Dr. Sartelle are both Colton alums, a little younger than our parents, I think - but roughly the same vintage."
"You talk to Ethan, Snips. Be honest with him. It will suck, but it's better than stringing him along only to drop him and then turn around and get hot and heavy with Knox," said Andy firmly.
"It was easier when I thought I was going to be Eden DeGroat," she said softly. "I mean, I'm happy for you and Sara, you know that."
Andy turned to look at his friend. "I know Eden, and you honor me. You're easily the most loving person I've ever known, and one of the bravest. But there's so much baggage there - it would not be fair to anyone involved. Especially not you and I."
"Andy, how did I never know this? That I might have feelings for Knox, I mean?"
"You're childhood friends, right?"
Eden nodded in response.
"Good friends are hard to come by - male or female. You probably both thought it wiser to put the other in a 'friend box' and keep them there. What if you had dated and then it didn't work? Was a high school dating relationship worth risking an old friendship?"
Eden nodded again.
"You're got an amazingly high EQ, Snips. I'll always give you the benefit of the doubt on that front. Then, with your mom and his dad as a part of the toxic Colton culture, you were both looking out for them by not dating and risking pissing off Fraulein Crazy Bitch," he grinned. "I get it, little sister."
Eden had tears in her eyes, and then gave a cry-laugh. Andy looked at her in concern.
"Captain Rex, would you mind holding my hand until we get back to the restaurant?" she asked shyly.
"It would be my honor to do so, Commander Tano. I'll hold your hand for as long as you need me to."
She sighed, took his offered hand, and leaned over to rest her head on his shoulder.
"I love you little sister, and I hate Knox's guts a little already," he said grinning.
"I love you too, Droobie. Thank you. I had no idea I'd need a big brother this badly, but I'm glad I have the best one when I need him," she said kindly.

loneshotover 1 year agoWhile I think it would be enjoyable and interesting to get an update on Lauren, I think Knox ending up with her would be as bad an idea as him ending up with one of our favorite young women. It harkens back to the old Colton way of a young man dealing with women. Neither Knox, nor Gus before him had fallen in love with or been specifically attracted to one particular spectacular young woman. Both of their mindsets were “any one of them will do, if the one I ask out says no, I’ll just move on to the next one.” This is a horrible way to establish a relationship. And especially for a woman in a close-knit group with self-esteem issues to be the 2nd choice, that would not put her in a good headspace. My vote is still for Svetlana - an accomplished woman in her own right and she and Knox can’t keep their hands (and other parts) off of each other when they’re together.
strebor190over 1 year agoI have another thought for who Knox might end up with: Lauren Jennings. Let's see that she is doing well and fully recovered from the assault by Chase Patterson. I wouldn't want to see things fall apart between Eden and Ethan, and, since Knox was interested in some of the ladies of crew team to begin with, I think that would make a nice story.
loneshotover 1 year agoI am enjoying the expansion of the Colton universe. Just like everyone else, I am interested in seeing who Knox's significant other is going to be. My vote is for Svetlana to show up on campus. I'm definitely not looking forward to Eden dropping Ethan for someone who never expressed interest in her.
Never even thought of the Jeannie angle, but that would be an interesting plot line.
Anonymousover 1 year agoI think part 2 should start with Jeannie meeting her new neighbor and Knox revealing she made a vow to never date anyone who speaks Russian and thus insta-friendzone him(to pay foward getting friendzoned by Andy). Mainly because this chapter was a downer and next chapter needs some more humor.
strebor190over 1 year agoI'm really enjoying these parallel stories and hope to see many more of them. When the first Adi/Gus story posted, I wondered if something of full prequel might be possible to give more detail about the difficult time that the ladies had the previous year or two, as it was mentioned a few times in the original. It would be nice to see who was involved in those bad times and what became of them. Are those the guys who we now are seeing as stand-up guys thanks to Andy's influence or are they the guys getting their asses kicked or being run off of campus, also from Andy's actions? These new stories seem to touch on some of those details and I think they will be fun to read. I've seen some comments complaining about all of the detail muddying the waters a bit, but I don't agree with that. With the number of characters in the original Sara/Andy story and now the new ones being added in these parallel stories, it does get a little difficult to keep up with how everyone relates to each other sometimes, but I still enjoy the stories and have read through them multiple times, both to refresh my memory of some characters and just because they are good reads. I very much appreciate all the detail and strong character development that seem to be a part of your writing. Thanks for all the effort to put these stories out there and I'll keep watching for more additions to all of these stories.
