I find it useful to have at least a general description of each character as they're introduced to avoid the "sour" feeling when a descriptive passage just doesn't jive with the movie playing in our heads. I mean, try to imagine Shirley Temple as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. It's just a bit off.

And I agree that Sydney getting pregnant would diminish the story. However, adding others to their bed could be thrilling.
