KISS. Too elaborate. Not that readers are simpletons that don't understand multisyllable terms, but showing off Word's synonym checker subtracts so much from the story it hurts. Plus, here we are at the end of the chapter and no hint where the story goes. To quote one of my favorite authors, "start as close to the end as possible."
