I am confused. Am i missing something, or is this some kind of nonhuman twist?

I thought this was an interracial story between a movie star with an evil publicist & a pretty island girl who happens to be where he's shooting his latest film. Who was the guy with dark hair and cerulean eyes? Why could she read his thoughts? I'm confused. Maybe the next chapter will shed some light.
