No matter how many pages of BS this author spit out the wife’s position was not justified

secretsalsecretsalover 3 years ago

Good writing, but the way Bridgit was pampered by everyone made it feel like it was heading for a 3-star resolution. Then the turnaround came, and balanced the scales a bit. Obviously makes for an imperfect marriage, but at least the grievances can be shared.

Harryin VAHarryin VAover 3 years ago

The story FAILS because the KEY issues raised in the marital therapy which were never actually resolved.

.

For example when the wife refused to choose apologize to what she did. if you recall... the husband is about to have a blow oup and the therapist ends the session . But that issue is never talked about when the next therapy session occurs.

.

It's never talked about by the husband and wife either.

.

More importantly WHY doesn't the wife think she did nothing wrong ? It's kind of unusual aspect.

.

Even worse WHY doesn't she value her husband's feelings ? even if you dont agree with someone you can usually understand Why they feel xyz or think xyz. But this wife doesnt even grasp WHY the husband is upset

.

The wife Suddenly getting a clue ONLY after she hears this guy lie about what happened on the phone call is pointless.

.

The significance of the wifes pathetic legalistc argument that she never took a certain type of bow therefore she has the right to Fuck other men is the key stumbling block in this story and the reconciliation.

.

Between that absurd defense and her stunning inability to see WHY the husband MIGHT be upset... makes reconciliation a joke

.

When a Cheater says it took nothing away from you it’s a defense strategy especially knowing that they didn’t make any changes in there married life. The is intamacy when two people fuck. There is no getting closer to one another than when giving your body and soul during sex. I would’ve said if it wasn’t taking anything away from me than why weren’t you up front from the day you reconnected on Facebook and got him a job and met with him every 1/4 for three days and shared meals and of course kissed fuck etc. I would’ve also asked were you thinking how much you loved me or our kids when you kissed him , dropped to you knees to suck his cock , took his dick until he came in you or when you woke up in bed with him the next morning. Her not taking anything away from the marriage is a bunch of bullshit. There is no way I could’ve stayed married to her . He would never trust her again . The first meeting with the doc I’d have insisted on dna matches for the kids even if I believe that they were mine just to hurt a little

Just as I thought I knew what I wanted to say...

The author turned the tables on Bridget. I was about to berate Kurt for rolling over so easily and then he spit her words right back in her face. Touché - maybe.

Considering that he had no plan to even the score when he took her back, I'm still not OK with his agreeing to stay married to a woman who is so delusional that she expects to be believed, when she says that she didn't take anything away from her husband... she took THE MOST IMPORTANT THING : his exclusive access to her body. AND she wasn't sorry that she did it.

She made a promise to that guy? Bullshit.

SO IS THERE ANY REASON............................................

That Kurt shouldn't keep helping Terry out on Monday, Thursday and Sunday? After all, he's still not taking anything away from the stupid, selfish slut. With her reduced libido she should be happy her husband is sexually satisfied with no emotional entanglements. And besides, Terry never lied to take advantage of a situation.

Baldface Liar

Wife not only commits three years of lies of omission, she also is completely lying through her teeth and she speaks. She doesn't apologize because she claims she did nothing wrong. Bullshit! She KNOWS she's doing wrong. Why else wouldn't she tell her husband about it? Why wouldn't she tell her mother? Her family? She also claims she's only doing it for her lover. Again bullshit! Can't tell me that she kept it going for so long when she herself wasn't getting anything out of it. Of course she was.

Should have divorced the bitch with extreme prejudice.

Superb Ending

I love the ending personally. The last paragraph plus closing statement takes an intense bitter battle of internal conflicts and flips the story into some quasi-tragic romance. He checks all the boxes on the how do I stay with her but always in the back of the mind has that incipient yearning for revenge. Although never mentioned, like many men who have faced betrayal they only want their partner to understand their own personal pain. How better to inflict that pain on his spouse than to follow through with an affair of his own following the same logic she spewed at him all those years ago. The problem being that the ladies are often much more adept at playing the end game than the gents. Good luck to Kurt. Would love to see how this all shakes out!

AnonymousAnonymousover 3 years ago

Well written, but the plot (i.e Bridgit) is so stupid that Garys explanation to his wife about the affair sounds like a much more plausible explanation. :)

LoejtcLoejtcover 3 years ago

A unique and creative mix of LW cliche', satire and irony.

Yes, there are some holes. Bridgit is absurd but is uniquely portrayed as "absolutely honest" and unforgiving of broken promises.

Kurt really doesn't try for revenge it just comes his way unbidden and it happily meets all Bridgit's requirements for sex outside of marriage. Kurt did, after all, tell Terry he would help her if he could. That's a promise isn't it?

So when she asked for sex, he was bound to supply it as long as Bridgit wasn't deprived as a result.

Funny how Bridgit's libido is revived when she realizes Kurt can get nookie without her.

The author put together a story that kept me interested throughout with a neat twist at the end.

umm

it was well written well for this website anyway but i was having a hard time seeing these ppl married. still having a hard time, "reading between the lines" all i see is a marriage of convenience, didnt see much love written into the story. the characters read like really dumb adults. "Bridgit hesitated and said, "Okay. Well, I think the next thing on my list is, like on Kurt's list, communication. By that I mean real communication, not just how was your day, but thoughts about his hopes, dreams, goals and fears. Let me share in those and you share in mine too. We communicate well, but I feel like we need more, especially now. That way we can better understand each other." " if they are just now realizing that then thart marriage was dead before it ever began. in other words they didnt know each other well enough to be getting married. as i say that i realize thats the description of most marriages lol

interesting story, liked Kurt's character, that the kids had a bit of involvement, and the use of Terry

I thought you were going to lead the story somewhere with Bridgit's problem of fulfilling promises but nothing happened.

didn't like the ending; I thought you could've just make them divorce after finding out about Terry, even better if they didn't actually have an affair and just genuinely hung out as friends where Bridgit completely misunderstands where it strains the relationship and they both decided to give up. Then Kurt falls in love with Terry.

Hmmm

Considering the husband got equivalent tail from Terry it's hard to say he completely caved. Considering the wife used the out "forsaking all others" wasn't in their vows, I'm not sure why she got upset when he did Terry. The lack of "forsaking all others" is a two-way street. If that loophole was good for her, it sure as is good for him too.

Add in the fact that the wife had unilaterally pulled back on the sex, and sent him away on Monday and Thursday nights whereas he did not do that to her, he is in someway at least justified. After all, with the change she is taking something away from him.

Maybe he needs to ask his wife the question about old cars. What does one do when a car is no longer reliable and doesn't seem to perform? Answer: start looking for a suitable replacement. I wander where he could find suitable replacement for his wife?

But he still didn't get her to say sorry for doing it. Nor did she promise to never do it again with anyone else. Until her gets those assurances, he should proceed with the divorce. They can always remarry if she gets a brain.

Rag just having some fun

Obviously the story is all about providing a set up in order to demonstrate how ridiculous "it took nothing away from you" is as an excuse for cheating. The author was having some fun and he writes well. It has to be hard to write a believable story which is premised on one character being so clueless and using such a silly justification. So let's cut the author a bit of slack.

Actually, I found the funniest part of the story to be the notion of a woman who never lies. Let's get real. Women are taught to lie as part of learning the social graces. They tell little lies to each other all the time. Then they lie to their boyfriends and husbands as a matter of course. They get so comfortable lying that it doesn't even faze them by the time they have been married a long time. And the biggest lie of all is the one they tell themselves that all their lies are harmless or even GOOD -- that they lie out of concern for the feelings of the people they lie to! Take our wife here. She doesn't mention to her hubby she's fucking her old flame because of her love for hubby. She knows it will hurt him and she loves him too much to cause him pain. She lies because she's such a good, moral, caring person. It's an act of love!

This begs for a second chapter. Conflict not resolved.

Great writing. Thanks for the story. My (hopefully constructive) critique:

The wife doesn’t recognize her own hypocrisy. She never explicitly acknowledges that she hates that which she tried to excuse.

The wife never gives an honest apology for the wrong act of having sex outside the marriage – only for the hurt it caused.

Without the two items above, the conflict remains unresolved. I see and appreciate the perfection of the setup… but without resolution of the conflict, the story feels unfinished and unsatisfying. This begs for a second chapter.

This story is a woman's mindfuck story, saying to her man, you aren't as important as my past. I had to honor my past. Total Bullshit. What about the present. Two Comments:

First, honesty. You made a point about the comment I made that when I make a promise I always follow through, even if I find out later that it's against my interests. However, I'm not autistic. I get the concept of nuance and circumstances. I would only promise my son I will get him a dog if I plan on following through, and I will. However, if I find out that he is allergic to dogs, then guess what? He isn't getting a dog. Same, if I promise my wife that next summer I will take her to Paris. But if we get divorced, I get in a car accident, there is a pandemic going on, then we aren't going. There are limitations to promises, and in this story the limitation was that she would be there for him IF they were still together. If Brigit is not autistic or something similar then she meant to cheat, and it wasn't about keeping her promise. That was just her excuse, even if she deluded herself with it, as well.

The second comment is that ultimately no one is sorry for the actual cheating itself, IF the sex was at least decent, and IF the person you cheated with didn't end up being a jerk. You are always sorry for the consequences. Think about it. If your ultimate fantasy girl tells you you can fuck her and you do. Your wife finds out and she is like, I totally get it honey; it's all good. Why would you be sorry that you fucked another woman? The only reason you would be sorry is because there were negative consequences. I would likely divorce my wife either way, but what I would want to know if she cheated is not if she is sorry for cheating or because I found out. My question is if she was sorry because of the negative impact on ME, or because of the negative impact on HER. That would tell me how much she truly cared about my well-being or was it all about her. That's what is meaningful, because even if she is sorry she cheated it's only because she got caught and there are negative consequences.

It's like asking someone if they are sorry for eating heavy fatty food. Their answer after is yes, because of how they feel or the health consequences (although unfortunately most Americans don't seem to really care about that either). If there were no consequences why wouldn't you eat whatever you fancied at the moment!?

Don't cancel your life insurance, redirect it ...

AnonymousAnonymousabout 3 years ago

The question in my mind was, "where do I rate?" He was her first love, would they be looking to renew a serious relationship? Where would that put me and our kids? I needed to find out what her feelings were for this Gary Jones, and for our marriage.

This is the thought process of a weak, needy cuck. The repeated bullshit about how "honest" Bridget is was revolting. She lied by omission for 3 years (canoodling and then fucking). The "keeping promises" concept was also bullshit. She knew what marriage means, and it doesn't include adultery. Moreover, "being there" for the other" (what a childish "Oprah/Dr. Phil" non-concept) doesn't mean that she needs to fuck Gary if he isn't allegedly getting enough at home - it could be listening to his problems or giving advice, but it doesn't entail committing adultery.

The twist at the end was funny, but a premeditated, 2-3 year affair merits the death penalty for the relationship. The horseshit about "are you better off with her or without her" is infantile. The betrayal, lack of respect, untrustworthiness, destruction of the unique bond of marital intimacy, and the horrendous example to the children of cucking out require kicking the slut to the curb in the most painful way possible.

I'd give a star purely on the basis that you had the husband eat breakfast somewhere other than Denny's or (god forbid) IHOP. But then.......

We come back to that emasculating the husband and the female psychiatrist with an agenda. And even though there was payback, once the slut slapped him he should have just walked away for good.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 3 years ago

If Bridgit is so honest, why didn't she tell husband that she had renewed her intimate friendship with her high school love and was going to have sex with him because she had "given her word" 20 years earlier to always support Gary (an incredibly stupid justification)? Quite literally no one could spout that nonsense with a straight face. This concept is so ridiculous that it is impossible for a reader to give the necessary "willing suspension of disbelief" necessary for any fiction to work.

I have wasted every second spent reading this and have destroyed more brain cells in so doing than if I had chugged a bottle of Jack. Really horrible.

To him (until her adultery changed his mind) it was a commitment before God, family and friends to be a couple and treat each other with love and respect. To her, the marriage was simply a legal contract to be pored over for loopholes that would allow her to justify stayi.g married to her meal ticket while fucking the Man she really loved.

Dump her; sorry for the kids but she is either brainless or such a hairsplitter that if she feels like doing something, she will find a way to justify it to herself. And no Kurt, she isn't honest; she lied by omission for years. She withheld material facts about her trips that were vitally important to your marriage. All those times that I am sure Kurt asked her after a trip, "So what did you do?" Or "What did you and your co-workers do after work for fun?" good ole Bridgit didn't mention Gary. Why? Because she knew Kurt would be ballistic. So 1*.

2nd read and still just an OK... Why? Bridget kept this secret for 20yrs (from her loving husband), she acted upon her ?promise? for TWO years every quarter and was naïve enough not to follow thru on FB about Liz (or did she really want her quarterly strange)?!? Lets look at this promise 20yrs ago, just what was it; "to have sex with him if his own married sex life was unfulfilling?" I doubt that promise ever existed - Bridget got seduced by an old lover. So can her TRUST truly be believed based on a lie?

/

Kurt or the writer was a fool - this was a perfect opportunity for a post-nuptial that clearly defined the lines and tangible proof requirements for post-nup claim to end the divorce process. Especially since Bridget held onto a missing technicality in their wedding vows. And maybe another public wedding vow redo for their 15th anniversary?!?

/

Kurt stuck it out for the kids and with hopes. Then she changed (from 5 to maybe once a week) - it happens- and he accepted it but she did nothing to help other than become more greedy with the TV [and who has only one TV in a home now days, i.e. another in the home office(man-cave)/den!] He gets banished to the corner sports bar. One thing missing or Mary (the shrink) did a poor job of educating Bridget on is what having sex means to a man/husband "having intermate love with your spouse is also a barometer of the relationship quality between spouses" when that intimacy changes it puts the husband on full alert so more communications are needed to keep that marriage train on the rails!

/

Then comes the 30th SLAP, why? Because Bridget discovered Terry was a female and JUMPED to conclusions? Bridget was willing to embarrass and humiliate Kurt in front of his whole company? WHY when Bridget never had suspicions or issues prior to her discovery that Terry was a female? [now we know her suspicions were correct but not at that moment at the party.]

/

Unless there are otherings missing in the story I tell Kurt to dump Bridget and seek Terry. Bridget has a few bricks too loose and again beginning to dominate their relationship. If Terry is a good friend with benefits and with like commonalities - trade UP!!!

/

I enjoyed Kurt's tit for tat back to Bridget - but that relationship is burnt due to Bridget's value system turning into arrogance. Or this story is missing much except the writers desire for all to jump to conclusions not specified within.

AnonymousAnonymousover 2 years ago

Gary was entirely right: "I tell you, she's nuts and should be seeing a psychiatrist."

I'll grant that the twist at the end was funny, but...

You get no suspension of disbelief when you RAAC with (1) a wife who clearly doesn't respect her husband (just look at the post confrontation dialogue), who carried on a long term affair, who was not in the least repentant (until she found out that her lover was just getting his rocks off with her), (2) a husband who starts becoming a weak needy, manipulable cuck after talking to his weak, loser boss and who is so easily loses his ability to think clearly during "counseling", and (3) the usual "counselor" spewing dishonest drivel designed to sugarcoat evil and induce the husband to cuck-out.

This is one of the stupidest wives I've seen written in LW. If I were in his shoes and was faced with compelling reasons forcing me to continue with the slut, I'd have no compunctions about having a "Terry". The slut voided the marriage contract and has no right to object to anything.

pages 1-3 are very good and exciting, after that the husband got weak, a pity, "it took nothing away from you" is not entirely correct, it took trusting her and love for her too from him, the worst part of a marriage, building trust again takes years, if possible at all, a couselor should know that, the reconciliation was too easy, a 4 for the fist 3 pages

Changed my score from 3/5 to 1/5. He really is a useless wimp.

What a messed up story.... The wife is delusional along with the quack shrink justifying her fling during her conferences. Yes, he did wrong too by using her thought process against his wife but overall they should've just divorced. The only one who had some sense in this story was their son, who is still a child.

I was forced to go to a counselor . She turned out to take my side . My Ex and her Daughter are Sluts that think only Men have to live by the Wedding Words . That is right Daddy's little princess stabbed her Dad in the back

Didn't care for it ... the W got off scot free with a 2 year LTA ... didn't even have to quit her job, and the MC was a quack, which is actually to be expected from my experience. They should have D'd after the first infidelity. 2/5

I don't see why Bridgit was at all upset about Kurt's fling. After all, by HER actions she demonstrated that when a man isn't getting any/enough at home and "needs the touch of a woman", it's perfectly OK to seek it elsewhere. At least Kurt wouldn't have been lying about the lack of sex like Gary did.

The "counselling" is bullshit, bullshit, bullshit cucky fucked up bullshit. Everything that proceeds from that is the same.

No promise is more sacred than wedding vows.cheating is cheating and it takes something away from marriage.you mayforgive but you will never forget

My belief in love and honestly is 180, degrees different. She did lie and you can't respect someone and treat them like that. Love definitely not. Wouldn't have emotional and mental relationship with him and for so long!!

I can't understand why commenters don't seem to get it. This whole story has one purpose -- to have some fun with the stupid justification "It took nothing from you." That's it. That's the whole point and the only point. The author tried to come up with some kind of way to build a story where the betrayed spouse could use the justification back on the original betrayer.

Of course the story is convoluted. It has to be. The justification is convoluted. Given the parameters he set out for himself when he started the story, I think he did really well.

He's not trying to write about a husband who behaves perfectly. He's building a scenario where the hubby gets to say the magic words. Good effort.

Seems like a lot of to do for nothing. Bridgit was bat-shit-crazy and certifiably crazy.

I don't get it.

I’ve read this story twice to make sure I wasn’t missing something. The level of Bridget’s betrayal is inexcusable. The “promise” as justification is evidence of a disturbed psyche! One doesn’t forsake marriage vows because of an old promise. Her first and foremost responsibility was to her husband and family. The “it took nothing away from you” is just utter bullshit!! I don’t buy her explanation or her justification! This should have been a BTB story.

Her betrayal was too deep to move forward with the marriage. She purposely excludes communicating with her husband, when that’s what she should have been doing from the outset. That’s pre-meditated, making her a liar and a cheater. No excuse can forgive that!!!

Although, the story is very well written, I couldn’t buy into the whole premise. Gary forgives too easily when you factor in the depth of betrayal! Nice try author. The LW section on Lit can be merciless with criticism but I hope I gave my reasons as to why I found the reconciliation lacking instead of just trashing the story.

Hooray!

Anonymous 1/25/22 has broken the code. The author played us all with a nonsense premise, "It took nothing away from you," then loaded us all down with bad logic and untruths, then sprung the trap at the end with the hubby regurgitating the same BS back to the wife when his affair was discovered. I admit I was so busy gnashing my teeth over the crap logic, partial truths, hair splitting over wedding vows, etc. during their separation and counselling, that I was smacked in the head with the irony when the author closed the trap.

Good humor and a great trick on your readers, rag. As always, thanks and please get an editor who understands grammar and punctuation.

Keep 'em comin'.

I just don't understand the logic of either. The husband is a coward who really doesn't understand his own set of values or willingly ignores them. His wife willingly cheated with a long ago friend even though anyone should be able to understand it could affect her husband, family, and marriage but she still made a conscious decision to risk it all and then doesn't understand what the big deal is even later, when her husband cheats on her it is a big deal. Rate it a 2.
