Just like the '©' helps protect an author's work, registered trademark names help companies protect how their products are portrayed, acquire income from approved portrayals ["product placement"], and making sure their product is NOT portrayed otherwise. A 'mis-spelling' could save the story from being pulled, the author getting sued, the host site from getting sued.
