It's simple. It ensures that the writer's intent is unambiguous. I'm with anonymous on this.
I couldn't tell who the conspirators were. It seems as if someone set up this fantasy roll playing, but I'm not sure who was the instigator.
Perhaps a second chapter will explain.
I would LOVE it if my husband set that up on me. I wouldn't want to know about it being set up until after the other man was gone though.
