One of the big problems with things like SAO is that the game just clearly wouldn't be very good, and so the decisions characters make in improving certain skills, are, in spite of their justifications to the audience and each other, apparently bad choices

One day —- soon, and then forever—- your neologisms will be spoken of and written about in the same ways that Shakespeare’s have been for centuries. The primary differences will be that Shakespeare’s will be seen as less inventive, and his love sonnets will pale in comparison to yours, and his will be forgotten.
