While I had talked to her on the phone, I had never met her before. When I laid eyes on her, I was immediately taken by her piercing blue eyes. She had her blonde hair in a pageboy cut that framed her round face. She wore glasses that did nothing to hide her beauty. She was a couple of years older than me but looked fit. She was about 5' 6" and wore 3" heels that made her legs and ass look great.

As we followed her to the conference room, I couldn't help but glance at her ass and admire how it moved under her skirt. I only glanced because I was getting hot and bothered and needed to get myself back under control. "Watch it, Alex," I scolded myself.

We sat down, and I introduced Stephanie to Barb. I made sure to let Barb know that Stephanie would be driving the evaluation while I was here to oversee the activities. Barb was pleased to meet Stephanie, and they chatted for a minute while I sat there trying not to ogle Barb. I did notice that, like me, she was not wearing a ring.

When Barb turned her attention back to me, I felt a flush of desire run through me when she looked me straight in the eye. I blinked as I worked to control my facial features as we discussed the overall schedule of events for the next three days. We spent an hour going over everything that we expected to occur. We also asked for a copy of the complete roster to pick out some random people to interview for the evaluation. Barb was expecting that and had already had one ready for us. When we were finished, Barb escorted us to the lobby. We parted and headed back to the VOQ. Stephanie was happy about getting to meet Barb. She told me that she felt that we wouldn't have any issues with Barb pushing back on us. I agreed with her.

That night, we had everyone meet so that Stephanie could give the pre-evaluation briefing to everyone. She did a great job with it, and everyone was ready to hit the ground running in the morning. As I lay in bed, I couldn't help but think about Barb. Although I planned to see if I could find Megan, I couldn't help but fantasize about Barb, picturing her face between my legs, her blue eyes locked with mine as she took care of my pussy.

My right hand went to my pussy while my left hand cupped my left breast, my nipple between my thumb and forefinger. As I ran my middle finger up and down my slit, I squeezed my breast, pinching my nipple in the process. My finger slipped between my lips, gathering up my juices. My finger then went to my clit, lubricating it as my finger circled my clit. As my breathing deepened, I sped up my finger as my left hand went to my right breast.

I worked my middle finger back between my lips and circled my hole before plunging into it. I moaned, "Oh, God, Barb!" as I quickly added my ring finger to my middle finger, pistoning them in and out of my pussy. My left hand flew down to my pussy, and I started rubbing my clit with my index finger, synching it with my right hand. I started panting and moaning as I brought myself to the edge of an enormous orgasm. As I did, the focus of my fantasy gradually shifted to Megan. Finally, I could take it no more, and I crashed into my orgasm, moaning, "Oh, God, Megan!" as her green eyes sucked me in. As I lay there in my post-masturbatory glow, I vowed that I would find Megan and to hell with my career. I fell asleep, and my dreams were troubled as I went from door to door looking for Megan.

The next morning, my team assembled in the lobby after breakfast and prepared to head over to the SDC. I had arranged a shuttle to take us there so a glut of rental cars wouldn't clog up the parking lot. When we arrived, Stephanie and I headed to Barb's office while the rest of my team spread out to their assigned places to begin the evaluation.

Lt. Col. Flemming was already in her office waiting for us. She had her PA, Shirley, set out a coffee urn and some donuts and bagels. I grabbed a cup of coffee along with Stephanie, and we started our meeting. The first thing we did was hand Barb the list of people that we wanted to interview so she could make them available to us.

I then let Stephanie take the lead as Barb listened intently to our presentation. It didn't take long because Barb was already familiar with a CMM evaluation. We didn't have to go into all of the details. When we came to a break, I asked Barb if I could borrow Shirley for a few minutes to do some research for me. Barb said to go ahead, so when Stephanie started the meeting back up, I slipped out and huddled with Shirley.

I asked Shirley to find out where I could call to find a faculty member at MIT. Since Lincoln Labs was an MIT organization adjacent to Hanscom AFB, I figured someone on the base might know how to find that out. She asked who I was looking for. I gave her Megan's name, and Shirley said that she'd call around and see what she could find out for me. I thanked her before heading back into Barb's office.

Barb had arranged for box lunches for my team. While we were eating, Barb was making arrangements for the people we wanted to interview to be available when we were ready for them. After I was done eating, I visited Shirley to determine if she had any success with my request.

"Hello, Shirley," I said. "Were you able to get something for me?"

"Yes, I did," Shirley said, handing me a piece of paper. "I managed to find someone who had access to MIT's faculty database, and she gave me Ms. McNeil's phone number and office location. I hope that helps?"

My heart clenched at the thought that I may soon be talking to Megan. I said, "Thanks, Shirley. This is more than I expected, and I really appreciate you doing this."

"No problem, Colonel Summers," Shirley said. "I'm glad I could help you."

"More than you'll ever know," I thought to myself as I turned and headed back to the conference room.

At the next break, I found an empty desk and used the phone to call the number Shirley had given me. As it rang, my heart leaped to my throat as the thought of hearing her voice gave me shivers. When I heard the click as the receiver was picked up, I prepared myself. When the "Hello?" rang in my ear, my heart sank. It was not Megan's voice.

"Hello," I said, trying not to sound disappointed. "I'm trying to get hold of Megan McNeil?"

"Oh, I'm sorry, but Ms. McNeil is not here now," the voice said, dashing my hopes.

"Oh?" I queried. "When will she be back?" I held my breath, hoping that it wouldn't be too long.

"I'm afraid that Ms. McNeil won't be back for another year," I heard, and my heart plummeted. "She's on an exchange program with Oxford University and is spending this year teaching there."

"I see," I said, unsuccessfully hiding my disappointment. "Megan will be coming back to this office and number eventually?"

"Yes," the voice said. "I'm covering Megan's classes for her this year. Can I help you with anything?"

"Oh, no," I said. "We're just old friends, and I was just trying to reconnect with her. Thanks for letting me know."

"No problem," the voice continued. "I'm sure Megan will be back before the next year's fall semester starts up. By the way, I'm Kathy, and I hope you get a chance to reconnect with her next year."

"Thanks, Kathy," I said. "I hope so, too. Goodbye."

"Goodbye," Kathy said as I hung up the phone.

My spirits were dashed, but I had a job to do. I put my game face on and got back to work. I had an evaluation to oversee.

April 1996

When I arrived at work this morning, I had a note on my desk to see Colonel Rogers at 9 AM. I figured that he had news on whether I had been accepted to the Air War College. He had kept his word and had worked with General Oldiges to get both of them to endorse my application. With that, I was sure that I'd be accepted, but stranger things have happened, and I wouldn't be sure until I got actual confirmation of my acceptance.

Promptly at 8:55 AM, I was waiting outside Col. Rogers' office. At 9 AM, I opened the door and entered his office. I came to attention, saluted, and said, "Lieutenant Colonel Summers reporting as ordered, Sir!"

Colonel Rogers smiled at me and returned my salute before he said, "At ease, Alex. Have a seat."

I sat down, feeling better because his smile meant he had good news for me. I smiled as he said, "I just wanted to let you know that you've been accepted to the Air War College. Congratulations, Alex."

"Thank you, Sir. I really appreciate you going to bat for me on this," I said.

"It was my pleasure, Alex," Frank said. "You've done an incredible getting the SPI program funding pushed through the budget process. Our goal to get all of the SDCs to CMM Level Four rating is well ahead of schedule. Finally, getting Stephanie groomed to take over for you allows you to move on without leaving us in the lurch."

"Yes, Sir," I said. "I wouldn't feel right leaving if I felt someone couldn't take over for me. Stephanie has certainly picked up everything and is capable of stepping in without a pause."

"So, do you have confidence that Stephanie can handle the CMM evaluation at the SDC at Hill AFB next week?" Frank asked.

"Yes, Sir," I answered. "In fact, I wasn't even planning to go. I wanted to see if she's capable of running a CMM evaluation before I leave."

"That's great," Frank said. "You've got a lot of paperwork to get done before you head down to Maxwell AFB. The earlier you get started on it, the better."

"Yes, Sir," I said.

"Okay," Frank said, indicating the meeting was over. "Let's get about it, then."

I stood up, saluted Frank, and left his office. I went back to my desk, my head filled with everything I needed to get done. Frank wasn't kidding; there was a lot of paperwork to get done. Since I expected to be going, I had already researched everything that needed to be done. I had prepared as much as I could beforehand. I did call the Air Force Personnel Center (AFPC) and tell them that I would need orders cut for my new assignment. I gave the person assigned to my case the information they needed to get the process started.

I then called the Air War College and talked to my sponsor/counselor. I told him that I had received my acceptance and briefly reviewed the curriculum that I would take. He said that he'd get my name on the classes and would call me back if he couldn't get me in all of the ones I had signed up for. I thanked him and hung up. Now, all that was left was to get my personal affairs in order.

I went down to the cafeteria and found a payphone, and called Virginia. The phone rang three times before it was picked up. I heard Virginia say, "Hello?"

"Hello, Virginia, it's Alex," I said.

"Alex! It's so good to hear from you," Virginia enthused. "What's the occasion?"

"I got accepted to the Air War College," I said, no longer able to suppress my happiness.

"That's wonderful!" Virginia said. "When do you start?"

"End of June, I'll be heading down to Maxwell AFB," I said. "My classes start after the Fourth of July."

"Will you be living on base or off?" Virginia asked.

"I'll be in the school barracks while going to school," I explained. "We each have our own suite, almost like an apartment. There's a small kitchenette if you want to fix your own food, but they have a nice cafeteria there too."

"Well, make sure to give us your number and address when you settle in," Virginia said.

"I will," I said, happy that she still wants to stay in touch with me. "So, what's new at your end?"

"Well, Judy and I are both doing great," Virginia said. "We're working closely to upgrade the configuration management tool. We've made some great improvements that will make it the envy of the industry. Amy had a great first year at Loyola Marymount and made the swim team. She won her share of races and helped the team make the conference playoffs."

"Great! How is Matthew doing?" I asked. I had heard that he got injured last fall in a practice game.

"He's doing fine," Virginia said. "He's 100 percent again, but he decided to give up his scholarship and concentrate on his studies. He did get in the ROTC program, and he's going to see how that works out."

"That's good. Is Matthew thinking about a career in the military?" I asked.

"I don't know," Virginia said. "He's thinking about it, but he's keeping his options open. He will have a four-year obligation after he graduates, but beyond that, he doesn't know yet."

"Well, between the two of us, we can tell him all kinds of horror stories about service in the military," I said.

"Yes," Virginia said, and I could hear the sadness in her voice. She had given up her career for Bonnie and, while she doesn't regret her decision, she'll always wonder if she could have made General before retiring. "We'll cross that bridge when we get to it."

"Yes," I said. "Did Mark get accepted at UC Irvine? How does Matthew feel about that?"

"Oh, yes," Virginia said, brightening up. "He got his scholarship, and he's going to be reporting early to start pre-season training. He's really excited. Matthew's fine with that. He thinks that Mark's a better player, and he is Mark's biggest fan."

"So, how is Emily doing? Did she tear up the pool again this year?" I asked.

"Absolutely," Virginia said, and I could hear the pride in her voice. "Emily holds every record at school, and she's looking forward to having a great senior year. She's bummed because she's the only one still at home with us old ladies."

I laughed at the thought of Judy and Virginia being labeled 'old ladies.' I said, "That sounds great. I'm glad everything is working out. Anyway, I'll let you go. Give my love to Judy and the kids for me."

"I will," Virginia averred. "I love you, Alex."

"I love you, too, Virginia," I said. I hung up the phone and headed back to my desk.

June 1996

As I drove up to the main gate at Maxwell AFB, I had the top down, enjoying the nice weather. As the airman waved me through and saluted me, I drove over to the Air War College to sign in. I had spent the last week making my way here from Wright-Patterson AFB, stopping in Gatlinburg for a couple of days. I enjoyed my stay there, exploring the various shops downtown and visiting the artist studios around the area.

Now that I was here at Maxwell AFB, I recognized the buildings where I had stayed when I attended Squadron Officer School (SOS) back in the mid-eighties. While I had enjoyed the thirteen weeks I had stayed here, having to share a room with another female Captain made it tough on me. Beth was married, so there was no temptation there to try anything with her. It was just frustrating to see her nearly naked every day and having to ignore it. She was beautiful and self-assured. Hearing her conversations over the phone with her husband, I quickly figured out who was the top in that relationship.

Beth and I hit it off, and we were thick as thieves the whole time we were there. The only thing I could complain about was that she was continually pointing out guys that she thought I should try to talk up, not realizing that I wasn't into men. I had to often make up excuses to her for why I wasn't interested in that. Eventually, I had to make up a story about a man that I was interested in back in Dayton, OH, to get her to stop.

I threw myself into the sports and running parts of the curriculum. Everything we did as individuals and as a flight, were scored for which flight would win top-flight honors at the end of the thirteen weeks. Our flight ended up in second place for our class, being beaten out by the only flight that beat us at volleyball. The last major competition between flights was a war simulation. We had to plan our fighter, bomber, and transport missions for transporting troops, attacking enemy troops and positions. We also had to plan refueling missions so the planes didn't have to keep flying back to a distant base for more fuel. I'm proud to say that our flight won that competition, making our flight leader ecstatic. We had actually broken the record for the quickest resolution of the scenario. However, our nemesis ended up second, so we didn't score enough more points to overcome that volleyball defeat. All-in-all, I had really enjoyed the experience of working closely with my peers for those thirteen weeks.

I pulled into the parking lot and went inside to get signed in. When I did, I received my room assignment and a welcome package detailing all of the eating and entertainment venues on base and nearby. While attending SOS, I didn't really have a lot of time to get off the installation to visit the area. Since I would be here for a whole year this time, I planned to know Montgomery like the back of my hand by the time I left.

I was also assigned an airman to be my personal assistant while I was attending the school. This was something new that I would have to get used to once I achieve Colonel or above. Apparently, it was beneath a Colonel to do their own laundry or make their own bed while going to school. Maureen Thomas was an Airman First Class (A1C) who had enlisted to earn money to go to college. She was eager to please, and I knew I would have to set limits on how much time we spent together because she was tempting but half my age.

I planned on working on my next assignment from here. I had put most of my belonging up in storage while I was here. I brought along my clothes, uniforms, and personal effects. Maureen insisted on helping me unload my luggage and bringing it into my room. She then gave me a tour of the facilities. We spent an hour going through the lodging area and even into the Air War College building itself to show me where all of the classrooms were. Maureen helped me get logged onto my computer in my room. I'd be spending a lot of time with it doing my classwork and research. I would also be spending a lot of time in the libraries since most of the material wasn't on-line yet. Maureen made sure I knew where all of the libraries were and their contents.

I was one of the first students there for this year's class since classes weren't going to start for another week. Some of the students would be coming in from overseas, so people were straggling in every day. By Saturday, just about everyone was there. The faculty held a welcoming event for everyone Saturday night. The purpose was to schmooze with each other and the teachers. Networking was emphasized a lot since we would all eventually have commands or responsibilities that would require cooperation amongst us later.

I made sure to interact with the males as much as I did with the females to allay any suspicions. We females were still outnumbered nearly four to one, so it was imperative that I felt comfortable with working closely with males from here on out. Luckily, most male officers were married by this time in their careers, so I didn't have to worry about being hit upon. Just about all of the female officers were married, too, so I was the exception rather than the rule.

I did notice that most of the female officers were married to male officers, while most of the male officers weren't married to female officers. Of course, the ratio of male to female officers would explain that. Because officers that manage to get to this point in their careers were dedicated, hard-working individuals, they didn't spend a lot of time looking around for a partner. It was no surprise that officers working closely together would end up falling in love and marrying. The only real prohibition was fraternizing between enlisted and officers. Oh, and same-sex relationships, too.

The first day of class was a whirlwind. Not only did we get enough homework to choke a horse, but we also had to create study groups to work together on additional assignments. The whole thrust of the curriculum was to force us to work together. Loners would be weeded out or be persuaded to learn to work with others.

Pretty much our whole day was busy during the weekdays. When the alarm went off in the morning, I got up and went running five miles before showering, dressing, and eating breakfast. Then I had classes all day except for a lunch break. Then, I would hit the gym for an hour, eat dinner, and then spend two hours with my study group. Then, if I wanted to, I could spend time doing research in one of the libraries or on-line and doing homework until it was time to go to bed. After a couple of weeks of this, I was thankful that I had Maureen to help me with ancillary things like laundry, making the bed, and keeping me in school supplies.
