BOth Master and Slave is one of my favourite BDSM novels, when I read your first chapter, I confess I skipped the authors note at the top, and I thought "damn, WHAT a bloody rip off!", and I was all set to have a go about it. THEN, reading your authors note, I realise thats your intention, and I am enjoying your rendition very much indeed.

I have lost my copy of Both Master and Slave, so Im enjoying re reading it here!

Not trying to single out this writer, but I really don't get the extreme pain stuff written about so ecstatically in many of these stories. A hot iron--even if it's supposedly "cooling"--could easily give a serious burn to the skin. I understand the connection between pleasure and pain and enjoy a spanking or nipple pinch myself, but not to the point where my body is damaged. So to all of you who are actually into the BDSM lifestyle: Where do you draw the line? Do you ever fear that your impulses to give or receive pain will just keep escalating? When is the amount of pain enough, when it finally puts the submissive into the hospital?

First, I am SO glad someone else who has read Both Master and Slave is happy with my effort to re-imagine that truly outstanding story through this medium (HINT: If you want to replace your copy of the original book, check out Amazon Canada -- that's where I got my replacement copy a couple of years ago).

Second, I appreciate the concern with regard to physical injury and pain in actual BDSM practice expressed so rationally and eloquently in the most recent comment. Not to quibble, but the story actually says that the iron wasn't hot enough to mark skin. Each BDSM couple must set its own pain limits, but although I personally find some sexual excitement from experiencing pain, I am not interested in being physically injured (I work and don't want to be reported as an abuse victim, after all!). There are all kinds of pain, pain thresholds, and needs -- thanks for thinking about this though!
