I realize you were flustered, but it would have shown quite a bit of moxie if you had replied, "Oh, you think you do, do you?" or something, or maybe flashed him your boobs. Maybe he'll become a more fleshed-out (so speak) character as you get to know him; after all, he's had a long life. If you are half the author I think you are, you won’t use the ridiculous trope of a submissive husband surrendering his wife to another man and being thrilled to being allowed to jerk off.

I’m sick to death of stories that treat the husbands as cardboard cutouts and their marriage as a place to wipe dogshit on. Give us some actual pathos: anger, hurt, betrayal, even sadness.

Even if John loves his wife so much that he would be willing to overlook her actions, there HAS to be a breaking point. A moment when he realizes that he’s been friendzoned or worse: treated with apathy.
