How was it working with Martin afterwards? Was it two people avoiding each other, or an entire office knowing that something had happened? Were the younger men emboldened, or was it the older ones?

John had become open to exploring fantasies to try to please his wife, didn't he? Looks like another good intention didn't go unpunished.

A quality story from Satindesires .Another married person who after years of happy marriage dosnt really know their partner at all and what they would and would not tolerate.

c24jc24jabout 2 months ago

Wait, she went a bit overboard, but he didn't really warn her it was unacceptable to him. Then she did NOT physically cheat, but later he probably did, while abandoning her forever (not just a weekend). I get the idea he wanted to get rid of her, and felt this was a great opportunity. I didn't really like any of the characters, but he's worse than she is.

jasonnhjasonnhabout 2 months ago

The typical result of a one sided fantasy and a absence of respect.

I liked that John didn't explode or crawl into a bottle. He accepted the reality that his marriage was over because his wife was a slut. He simply sought out a new life for himself.

It's hard to understand how a seemingly well grounded Trish could go so far off the rails but she did. She showed she had no respect for John. Women complain about 'mansplaining", but her affair was dealt with by "womansplaining" how it would "help" their relationship and wouldn't affect their love. In the end, HER views didn't hold up or work out very well. Maybe she should have discussed it with her parents and kids BEFORE exploding her marriage. She might have been rescued by reality.

You are right, it is difficult to come up with something new in the LW category, but you’ve pulled it off. Great story.

Although the “blame” can be put all down to Trish’s behaviour in pursuing that penetrative orgasm, I think she was being totally unfair on John in assuming this holy grail was worth the risk to her marriage - it obviously failed miserably. Martin was just a dickhead; another guy just thinking with his dick and not his brain!

He probably owed her an ultimatum. D

Nice ending. I wouldn’t take her back either. Obviously cheating usually involves sex but IMHO it doesn’t have to. Intent certainly counts too. She no longer loved her husband, one can’t do that to a lover.

There are other stories that try to stop the cheating but why would you? No spouse should be a jailer.

miket0422miket0422about 2 months ago

Creative. Loved him using the first letters of each text to send her a message.

It seemed like a huge jump to go from a single dance with Martin at the party that upset John to suddenly going away for the weekend with Martin

Trish tells us how much their sex life improved after the party. Yes, she mentions that Martin has ramped up his flirting but, we have no indication of anything actually happening with him and all of the sudden she's leaving for a weekend away with him. That was a rather large hole in the plot development to me.

Still, an entertaining story and really no noticable writing mistakes like this author normally has in their stories.

jflindersjflindersabout 2 months ago

I disagree with @demander to some extent. She'd already trashed the marriage and was owed nothing. It was entirely up to him whether to give her an ultimatum or not, though it would have made more sense to me if he simply ended the marriage immediately on being told of her decision rather than waiting to see if she went through with it.

I liked the story, but struggle with the main male character's early reactions being so different from his later reaction. He starts out standing back allowing her to make a decision, then lets her know before she's actually had intercourse that the marriage is over. If her deciding to have sex with Martin was enough to end the marriage, why not start doing his prep (dividing things ...) when she first tells him, then tell her before she goes out the door that the marriage is over? Why wait, even several texts into her trip?

My reaction to the characters differs from that of @c24j only in degree. I don't consider the husband worse than the wife, perhaps because I don't share the view that the husband was just looking for an excuse to dump the wife, but dislike both of them.

Demosthenes384bcDemosthenes384bcabout 2 months ago

Well, you certainly generated a lot of discussion - LOL! Given the series of events in their relationship building up to her date, I agree with Demander there should have been a definitive "don't do this" somewhere in his response. You don't explore it here, but an alternative plot line for him only giving cryptic responses before she left would be he wanted her to own the blow up of their marriage so he and Marlene could be together. 4.1*

Similar to the intent to murder scenario, she was guilty of intent and deserved to get divorced.

Enjoyed the story. I wondered about John's passivity. Of course he knew he could not control his wife, but outside of a single, 'those were fantasies' line he never added, 'it should never come true.' He should have made his displeasure clear at least once.

The messages were great. And his timing to tell her the key behind them to spell out the word was right on. But like he said after her intent was all that mattered.

Regguy69Regguy69about 2 months ago

The outcome was to be expected. The notion that "Hot Wife" is a secret desire of most husbands is pure bullshit made up by the tiny few who actually enjoy the masochistic practice. While it may be true that many men wish some other guy's wife was a hot wife, they most certainly DO NOT want their own wife to be one.

Well-written story, thanks for sharing.

waifwaifabout 2 months ago

I gave you 5 stars and a big part of the score was the difficulty factor in:

.

a) Writing in this category, which guarantees that a quarter of the readers will HATE it, and another quarter will mercilessly pick it apart.

.

b) Using the word puzzle, which I found new and refreshing.

.

My only criticism, is more a general malady that everyone who writes in this category must deal with. Unfortunately, the problem is best explained by a rhetorical question. Since humankind proves it is a valid question, regardless of how disappointing it is, we are stuck with a plethora of divorces.

.

The question is:

.

How can a couple live together and forsake all others for so many years, and even decades, have so little understanding of the person they pledged their lives to?

Just_WordsJust_Wordsabout 2 months ago

That worked. A little more development around her change of heart that led her to go off with Martin would help. Hard to understand her self-destruction while Martin is a common bit of garbage we all know too well.

Imaginative take on the cheating wife theme. There were a few holes in the story as pointed out by other readers, so it could not be described as “real” in any way. This, however, allowed for a fantasy resolution that seems satisfying.

It was Ok but a well 'chewed' theme I have NEVER understood how a married woman could so badly fail to understand the man she married. There are some writers out there who think cheating can be rationalized, I don't understand how anyone sees a 'one time only' to be seen as acceptable, forgettable and anything but the deepest posssible betrayal. The comment by 'c24j' is cynical, misguided and I suspect born of personal experience and the miscalculation that caused it!

It is right that the husband decided to divorce. Surely Martin would have persuaded her to make it a regular thing, with or without John's permission. Especially if she finally felt a vaginal orgasm during sex with Martin. Trish would argue that nothing has changed between her and John - John still gives her pleasant oral orgasms, and Martin complements what John cannot give her. Moreover, it seems to me that if she hadn't had an orgasm with Martin either, then Trish would have continued to look for this feeling with other men, convincing herself that she definitely should get this experience and that John doesn't mind it, since he once already let her go with Martin for experiments of this kind. So why upset him once again and poke his nose into male insolvency again? It is better later that she shares her joy with her husband that this happened and tells the excited John all her feelings, experiences and details, right down to the second of this event. And, of course, the love of her life sincerely share her enthusiastic emotions. Undoubtedly, this will be the case...

AnonymousAnonymousabout 1 month ago

I've seen this premise a lot, but I really like this take on it. I like how he just decided what to do almost right after she told him she was going away for a weekend. A man shouldn't have to beg his wife not to fuck another man.

The defence used by cheaters have got to be some of the most ridiculous statements in the history of ridiculous statements.

“It was just sex”

“I love only you”

“I always come back to you”

“It wasn’t an affair”

“It was just a bit of fun”

“It didn’t take anything away from you”

“They were no threat to our marriage”

That last one is a doozie.

If my wife couldn't orgasm, I would think there was something wrong with me. Ergo, there is something wrong with John. Perhaps they should have seen medical help to see why this beautiful moment in a relationship didn't happen. Tough category, but you did not come up with something new. A fan.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 1 month ago

Why does a spouse have to tell the person they committed to that making a fatal choice is wrong. Vows are vows. Not simply suggestions. She was totally given over to dreams and lust. He recognized her flaws and the destruction acting on dreams had already caused. His response might have been harsh, but she got what she earned. In her heart she destroyed them.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 1 month ago

Coming up with something different doesn’t mean window dressing. Cookie cutter, done to death BTB is the same no matter what little quirk you try to mask it with.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 1 month ago

Good for a BTB story.

This happens in real life. Friend's wife was sexting a married guy over a period of days, and the guy's texts were getting disrespectful calling the husband names and suggesting getting together without him. When the husband found out, it was an immediate divorce. Wife tried to point out nothing physical happened, but the disrespect in the texts was always there.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 1 month ago

Many people are wondering: What is considered adultery? What are her criteria? Where is the red line? Maybe it's an interest in a person, but not in a spouse? Secret lunches, dinners, hanging out together? Mutual affection? Kisses? Sexual caresses? Oral sex? Sexual intercourse? A full night together? Having a child out of wedlock? Each person has their own limit of tolerance and, often, they are very different in relation to themselves and their partner. In my understanding, cheating happens in the head. No, these are not sexual dreams or fantasies about another person. This is a clear thought-out and formed idea about the permissibility of doing something unacceptable, inappropriate. That's all - the betrayal has already happened. Next, it's a matter of details or chance. And if this is voiced or permission is asked from the spouse, the marriage is over (if your spouse is not a pervert).

AnonymousAnonymousabout 1 month ago

Trish misunderstood John's concerns that she had not experienced a vaginal orgasm. It was only John who was upset that he, in fact, could not bring Tricia to orgasm during intercourse. However, Tricia interpreted this in such a way that she thought John would be pleased if she tried these sensations, regardless of who was in bed with her. She selfishly and in a naive way, considered her husband a stupid altruist.

What man would freely allow his wife (yes, I said “allow”) to leave for a weekend with another man? There’s truth in the husband’s thinking that the wife’s desire to go with the other man / her intent - is enough to get the gears of the divorce machine greased up and running. He could have explained to her that if she wants to screw another man, she’ll be free to do so after the divorce is filed. Now… is there a chance that the wife would immediately see the error of her thinking when faced with the consequences of a divorce? In this story, based on the wife’s non-hostile attitude towards her husband, it could be possible. So, had the husband had a pair, and clearly explained the consequences of a divorce in advance, the divorce might have been avoided - which doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t have work to do. 4/5 BRB

The problem with chastising the husband when the wife confronts him with, 'you know I love you so much, blah, blah, blah, but I want to do this one time and then come back to you and be your loving wife again, blah, blah, blah is even if he says no, even if he forbids her from doing it, she will do it anyway, with or without his approval. It seems that John became aware, or at least had a suspicion, at the Christmas party that he wasn’t enough for Trish. It was apparent, when they returned home from the party, that Trish had “just about attacked” John sexually because she had been worked up over Martin. So now it’s becoming even more obvious to John that he’s not enough for Trish. A lot of commenters are saying that John needed to put his foot down at that point, and at points after that, to let it be known that he wasn’t onboard with this interest that Trish had in Martin. But if he had done that, and Trish’s interest was what it seemed, then she might well have taken it to a clandestine level and had an affair with Martin behind John’s back. He did let it be known to Trish that he wasn’t onboard with the weekend away when he stated, in reply to Trish wanting to explore her fantasies, that "That was just a fantasy Trish." Trish even mentions that she saw the “hurt and confusion” in John when she tells him that she needs this. She notices how John slumps against the wall. She even tells Martin that John did not take it well. It’s not like she doesn’t know how it’s impacting John. So no, I don’t think that John needed to state his position any more than he did, particularly if he wants to see what Trish’s actions, of her own free will, will be. John confirms that when he states, "That's a shame... it's clear you wanted him, I don't want to hold you back, it's your body, your choice.” In the end he concludes that Trish needs more than him, and starts the process of cutting loose from her.

.

I do think there’s a slight chance that John may reconcile after giving Trish a taste of what she dished out to him (OK, maybe several orders of magnitude more than just a taste).

.

It’s a great tale (five stars). My only complaint is that due to John’s subdued responses, the reader couldn’t feel the anguish he was undoubtedly experiencing. I’m debating with myself whether a few mind bubbles (thoughts known only to John) would have ruined the ending to the story. I kind of expected it would turn out the way it did, and the mind bubbles may have telegraphed an ending you didn’t want revealed until it arrived.

Postscript to my previous comment:

Even her parents saw how stupid she had been ("My parents were equally furious and couldn't understand what I was thinking") ... so why didn't Trish. The answer to that is she simply didn't want to hear or recognize the obvious. She couldn't separate fantasy from reality.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 1 month ago

Doesn't seem to me that hubby cared. If you love your wife, why not fight to save your marriage while there is still time? Why not tell her not to go or there will be severe consequences? I agree with the wife's assessment. He wasn't happy, but he seemed to be all right with things. This sound like a tale of two people who really weren't concerned with saving thier marriage.

Well, elling50, he stated that she had intent, showing that there was nothing he could do as he told her that she needed to differentiate between reality and fantasy. Clearly you could not either because that was where he wanted something to stay as a fantasy, meaning he didn't want it become a reality. She had the intent to see it through, there is a matter of communication, but there's also the matter of how one perceives the communication, she could not see his distress, when he was telling her that and continued to go through with it. At that point, it's not worth fighting for someone like that, when she had the intent to go through as someone said he knew he couldn't control his wife, but he could at least control what happens after.

First of all, you had mew captivated with this story. You're very talented at this type of subject matter, evident in the angst and nervousness I felt while reading./ My criticism is founded only in my personal tastes, so it is my problem. But yes, you get to hear about it.

I felt Trish progressed much too fast from mild flirting to "Honey we need to talk." It felt rushed. In that span I would have expected more dialogue between John and Trish as well as the expression and thoughts such inner turmoil would bring. Suddenly, she was leaving and we didn't really know John's reason for letting her go. Or his reason for not telling her how he felt. John went silent at the worst time. In the end, she exhibited intent but you can't equate intent with the action. The fact that she dropped everything and sped home in a panic to her husband speaks volumes especially since we knew her true thoughts and concern for her husband, while his pre-trip demeanour , was at best, passive. I am not letting her off the hook. Her actions were definitely disgraceful. Most women, yes most women, don't always achieve orgasm during intercourse. I went about 4 years of post-virginity sex without having any orgasm, and I was a slut and enjoyed some hot studs, (white, black, huge, small ) for partners, Among my little vixen girlfriends, three of the four of us were in the same situation. except for that bitch Kerrie, who claimed to have them every time but she lies about everything,

Also, I hate the copycat revenge for infidelity. While it may be justified, it tarnishes my opinion of the character and leaves me without a connection, and that connection is huge in these stories.

Escape_WithinEscape_Withinabout 1 month ago

There are not enough stars for this one. It is an ode to the passive aggressive. I have read through the 43 comments posted at the time I decided to add mine. For those who object, awareness and identification is the confrontation. John advises his wife that her attraction is obvious. It is a disapproval and notification of disapproval. It is not blunt or obvious. She rationalizes his personal view of failing. The orgasm you can not give me another might, not even a another can. The issue of one’s word (vow) over freedom of choice. She wants to try someone else confirming his failings. He does not protest enough according to other readers, but “He who is not with me is against me.” Unlike the text messages to him he is not on the Bandwagon before hand. He is silently against it. She just doesn’t want to see it.

Then he gives her “enough rope to hang herself”. The intent is enough and had it not been for the content of his messages she would have completed her betrayal. Someone pointed it out. She had been with him long enough. Why didn’t she know this? Because she didn’t want to.

Passive aggressive is a valid behavior type. The husband is this type of person I know well. Fantastically done.
