Considering how hot and heavy Abs and Paul got in the preceding chapter, I'm amazed it took them five months to get together. Clearly, Steve was either aware of the impending hook-up or has given her a free pass to screw whomever she likes (even her brother?), so long as he gets to hear about it afterwards. This will presumably carry forward into their eventual marriage in 1987.

Incidentally, why not "Tights Ch.05"?
