"When you graduate high school, you can submit papers to embark on a sacred mission for the church," Carey elaborated, her eyes shimmering with reverence. "It's an opportunity to spread the gospel and share the teachings with people from all walks of life around the world. The assignments are divinely guided, as the prophet and the apostles pray for each individual to be sent to the specific place where they're needed most."

Time seemed to stretch as the weight of the revelation settled on Sky's shoulders, the world around her receding into a muted backdrop. She locked eyes with Emma, who silently mouthed the word "sorry," her gaze filled with remorse. A torrent of emotions surged within Sky—hurt, confusion, and a profound sense of loss.

"I'm your best friend... Why didn't you tell me?" Sky's voice quivered with a mix of vulnerability and longing, as if grasping for an anchor in the shifting tides of their friendship.

Emma's eyes welled up with tears as she reached out, her voice filled with genuine remorse. "I was going to... I just didn't want to burden you today. I was already overwhelmed and stressed this morning."

Tears brimmed in Sky's eyes, threatening to spill over, as her meticulously laid plans for the future seemed to crumble around her. The colors of her dreams grew hazy, and the love of her life—her rock and confidante—was preparing to embark on a journey that would take her away.

In that moment, the world became a tempest of swirling emotions, and Sky found herself descending into a profound abyss of anguish, each step into the darkness.

Sky?!" Emma's voice pierced through the haze, her grip tightening around her best friend as Sky began to crumble to the floor.

"Look, hey, it's me... You're having a panic attack. Breathe," Emma urged, her voice filled with concern and tenderness.

Sky slowly regained consciousness, finding herself nestled against a soft pillow and wrapped in a warm embrace. Wait... a hug?... and pillows? Sky's heart fluttered as her mind raced to catch up with her surroundings. Her hand involuntarily came into contact with Emma's bosom, and an electrifying jolt shot through her body. "Okay, just look up and smile," Sky silently commanded herself, desperately trying to maintain composure as she raised her gaze to meet the eyes of the captivating goddess before her. Emma's presence alone was enough to send waves of warmth and longing coursing through Sky's veins, intensifying the turmoil within her.

"Ahh! Yay! You're awake. Some guys offered their room for you to relax... You froze again," Emma's voice broke the enchantment, bringing Sky back to reality. The mixture of relief and affection in Emma's tone only deepened the confusion in Sky's heart.

"Oh," Sky replied, her mind struggling to recall what had transpired after she had received the news about Emma's impending mission. Her thoughts swirled with a chaotic blend of emotions, the lines between friendship and something more blurring within her.

"Are you okay?" Emma's voice held genuine concern, but Sky couldn't help but yearn for something beyond mere concern. She longed for Emma to see the turmoil that churned within her, to understand the depth of her feelings.

"Yeah..." Sky's voice wavered, the unspoken words hovering on the tip of her tongue, yearning to escape but held captive by fear and uncertainty.

"Do you want to go home?" Emma's question pulled Sky back to the present moment, reminding her of the choices she had to make.

"No, sorry, thanks, Emma... I'm okay," Sky's words echoed with a mix of gratitude and longing. Her gaze shifted, avoiding direct eye contact with Emma, as she fought to conceal the depth of her emotions.

But... why couldn't you tell me about your mission sooner?" Sky's voice quivered, her inner turmoil spilling into the words. She desperately wanted to understand why Emma had kept this significant decision hidden from her, their bond of friendship strained by the weight of unspoken desires.

"Well, I wasn't sure if I was going to go at first. But now I know it's the right thing to do," Emma's vulnerability seeped into her words, and Sky couldn't help but feel a surge of conflicting emotions. The pain of potential loss battled against the understanding that Emma had her own path to follow.

"It's right to leave me?" Sky's voice trembled, the fragile vulnerability of her unrequited affection laid bare. The fear of abandonment mixed with the bittersweet knowledge that their lives were destined to take separate paths.

"Sky, I'll always be your best friend. But we won't always be together, remember? One..." Emma's words trailed off, leaving Sky in a whirlwind of emotions.

"Emma..."

"Yes, Sky?"

"Let's just go home."

"Okay." Emma's voice carried a tinge of sadness, recognizing that Sky needed time to process her emotions. She helped Sky to her feet without saying another word.

Together, they made their way outside, where Carey bid them a final farewell, relief evident on her face now that she knew Sky was alright. Emma took the wheel and drove them home, a silent understanding enveloping the car.

First, they stopped at Sky's house, their original plan to have a sleepover suddenly uncertain. Emma couldn't help but worry if Sky was truly up for it, but Sky reassured her that everything would be fine, mentioning that her parents were already expecting her.

As they stepped into the house, they found some leftover pizza in the fridge and silently prepared for bed. The air hung heavy with unspoken words, the weight of their unfulfilled conversation lingering in the room. Emma laid out the sleeping bag on the floor, and as Sky settled into her bed, an unspoken question emerged.

"Where are you going to serve your mission?" Sky's voice was tinged with a mixture of curiosity and longing, desperate to know where Emma's path would take her.

"I don't know yet," Emma replied softly, her own uncertainty shining through.

"How long will you be gone?"

"About one and a half years."

A moment of vulnerability passed between them as Sky hesitated, gathering the courage to voice her deepest desires. "Hey, Emma, is there any way I could convince you not to go?"

Emma's response was regretful but resolute. "Sorry, Sky. This is just something I have to do."

After that, silence settled over the room. Sky nestled into her bed, her mind swirling with a whirlwind of emotions, while Emma found her place on the floor, her heart heavy with the weight of their unspoken connection. The room grew quiet as the night embraced them, their unspoken desires and unfulfilled dreams suspended in the darkness, waiting for the dawn of a new day.

Then a voice broke the silence.

"Sky, do you want to come to church with me tomorrow?"

Sky was taken aback by the unexpected invitation. It had been a while since she last attended church, and her memories of that experience were not the most positive. However, a mischievous idea sparked in her mind.

"I will, on one condition," Sky responded, her voice filled with a mix of playfulness and longing.

"Sky, I have to go on my mission," Emma replied, her tone tinged with a sense of duty.

"I want to be your first kiss," Sky blurted out, her words rushing out in a rapid stream. Finally, she took a breath, hoping her request would serve as a bittersweet connection, anchoring Emma to her.

"What? Why? We aren't lesbians," Emma responded, caught off guard by Sky's proposition.

"Well, if I'm going to lose you to your God, then I need something to tie you to me," Sky explained, hoping to cloak her true feelings behind a seemingly random reason.

"But... we are best friends... Why do you want to kiss me?" Emma's voice held a mix of confusion and realization, slowly dawning upon her as she processed the hidden truths behind their interactions.

Sky's heart sank, her vulnerability laid bare before Emma's perceptive gaze. She had hoped to keep her feelings hidden, to protect their friendship from the complexities of romantic entanglements. But now, her secret was out in the open.

"Oh my gosh. Sky, are you into me?" Emma's words hung in the air, the weight of understanding settling between them.

Fear gripped Sky's heart as she braced herself for the potential fallout. She feared that Emma would distance herself, that their friendship would crumble under the weight of unrequited love.

"Fine," Emma finally replied, her voice laced with a mix of resignation and vulnerability.

Sky froze, unsure of what would come next. The ball was now in Emma's court, and the fate of their friendship hung precariously in the balance.

"What?" Sky asked, her confusion evident as she tried to comprehend Emma's proposition.

"If you come with me to church and talk with the missionaries, I will kiss you," Emma reiterated, her tone conveying a sense of seriousness.

Sky paused for a moment, contemplating the offer. Part of her wondered if it was just a ploy to distract her from the pain of Emma leaving on her mission. Yet, a glimmer of hope flickered within her, urging her to take the chance.

"Okay, deal," Sky agreed, a mix of anticipation and uncertainty filling her voice.

The conversation took an unexpected turn as Emma broached the topic of Sky's sexual orientation, questioning if she was a lesbian. Sky lay there in silence, unable to find the right words to express herself fully.

"You must be disgusted," Sky finally managed to utter, her voice tinged with sadness as tears threatened to spill.

Emma, sensing Sky's distress, swiftly jumped out of her sleeping bag and embraced Sky, pulling her close to her chest.

"No, Sky. In our church, we are taught that experiencing such feelings is a trial that you face in this earthly life," Emma explained gently, her voice carrying a mixture of empathy and conviction. "We believe that in heaven, those feelings will be transformed into purer, stronger connections with others, possibly just a deeper bond with women. We are taught not to hate or shun those who identify as such. Rather, we are encouraged to show love and understanding while staying true to our beliefs. God loves you no matter what, and He wants you to be with Him again. You are still a daughter of God."

Sky struggled to fully comprehend Emma's explanation, her mind clouded by the possibility of finally sharing a kiss with Emma if she attended church.

Amidst her confusion, a flicker of hope ignited within Sky, overshadowing her doubts. Maybe, just maybe, this unexpected turn of events could lead to a deeper connection with Emma, even if it meant navigating the complexities of their faith and personal feelings.

"Wait, if you aren't supposed to 'give in' then why did you agree to kiss me?" Sky asked, her voice laced with confusion.

Emma hesitated, realizing the contradiction in her words. "It will get you to church, won't it?" she replied, attempting to justify her decision.

"I won't change, Emma," Sky asserted, seeking comfort as she nestled in closer to Emma's embrace.

"That wasn't part of the deal. I just want you to come with me to church," Emma clarified, her voice tinged with uncertainty.

"Well, then can I get my kiss?" Sky looked up into Emma's grey eyes, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.

"Um, okay," Emma consented, her own gaze fixated on Sky's green eyes. A mixture of conflicting emotions swirled within her as she questioned her actions.

"What am I doing? This isn't right," Emma thought, a realization dawning upon her as she contemplated the promise she had made.

Sky and Emma locked eyes, the unspoken tension between them palpable. Sky didn't want to force anything upon Emma, yet she couldn't tear her gaze away from her best friend's captivating eyes.

Emma couldn't deny the magnetic pull she felt towards Sky. If she were to share a kiss with a girl, she reasoned, it might as well be her best friend, the one she couldn't help but feel a tinge of jealousy towards. Sky possessed a captivating allure, attracting attention from others effortlessly. Yet, she never once pressured Emma into doing anything wrong. This kiss, Emma believed, was a way to express her gratitude and offer closure. She understood the pain of unrequited love as a lesbian unable to be with the one she desired due to their heterosexuality. So, she resolved to endure one kiss for the sake of her best friend.

Closing her eyes, Emma leaned in, the weight of her decision heavy upon her.

Sky couldn't believe it. She was moments away from kissing her best friend, the person she envisioned as her future lover. Determination surged through her veins as she vowed to make Emma hers, regardless of the obstacles they faced.

As the moment hung in the air, a sense of suspense enveloped Sky. Her heart pounded in her chest, her mind filled with a whirlwind of emotions. The anticipation was overwhelming, and her thoughts raced in a frenzy.

"What if she pulls away? What if she realizes she doesn't feel the same way? What if this changes everything between us?" Sky's inner dialogue spiraled into a storm of doubts and fears.

But amidst the chaos, a surge of confidence surged through her. She couldn't let fear hold her back any longer. This was her chance, her moment to finally express her true feelings. The wild mood swings within Sky fluctuated between hope and uncertainty, excitement and trepidation.

She mustered every ounce of courage, reminding herself that she had yearned for this moment for far too long. The magnetic pull between them couldn't be denied any further. With a newfound determination, Sky's inner turmoil transformed into a resolute resolve.

"No more holding back. No more wondering 'what if.' This is my chance to seize the moment, to take a leap of faith," Sky thought, her heart pounding in sync with her racing thoughts.

With her eyes closed and her breath hitching in her throat, Sky leaned in, savoring the tension and the thrill that lingered in the air. Time seemed to stand still as the world around her faded away, leaving only the impending kiss and the intense emotions coursing through her veins.

In that fleeting moment, as her lips inched closer to Emma's, Sky embraced the exhilarating uncertainty. The mixed emotions of longing, anticipation, and hope mingled within her, creating an electrifying cocktail of sensations.

Finally, their lips met, and everything else dissolved into insignificance. Sky's world narrowed down to the sensation of Emma's soft touch, the warmth of their connection, and the overwhelming rush of emotions that flooded her being. In that breathtaking instant, all doubts and fears vanished, replaced by the pure bliss of their shared intimacy.

Sky's heart soared as she savored the taste of the forbidden, relishing the sweetness of this stolen moment. It was a catalyst for an emotional roller coaster, a journey that would forever alter the course of their friendship and possibly unlock the depths of their true desires.

And in that stolen kiss, amidst the suspense and the unpredictable mood swings, Sky found solace. She had taken the leap, bravely venturing into uncharted territory, ready to embrace the unknown and explore the boundless possibilities that lay ahead.

After finishing. The beginning is hard to read due to point of view inconsistency. But half way through it feels better. Love it!

Not bad. Like past comments needs editing. But the story is really interesting. Il continue reading. But only if you get better at editing you story. The punctuation is fine the biggest problem is there is repetitious paragraphs and inconsistent point of view.

But the characters feel believable. And there is some strong inner turnmoil seen in Emma. You could have an amazing story. Just focus on the small things though like stated before.

Point of view is inconsistent. Tense of prose is inconsistent. Paragraphs repeat information stated immediately before. I used to put these sorts of errors down to inexperience, but these days my reflex is to ask if it's AI.

The basic story is really great, a nice twist on a familiar theme. You really do need an editor. There are issues with voice (1st to 3rd person) but also some capitalization and punctuation issues. Trying to self edit is hard. We tend to read what we meant to say and knowing what we intended react to it as being right. (https://www.literotica.com/editors/)

It's not bad but you need to edit. You have 1st person and then you jump to 2nd/3rd person which throws the story off.
