A great story. I remember reading it before and was happy to re-read again as the whole premise was great and cleverly written.

Well, maybe except for the intro, that struck me a bit forced. I'm not sure, but I think the earlier version had only a vague reference of what happened "back then" and think it was (or would have been) more fluid if summed up in 2-3 sentences. Then the words "The Night" are slightly overused in the early pages that might have been rephrased for a bit more variation (especially in dialogues I'd think "since... you know" would feel more natural). And then at the end, when the details of the event are unveiled feels forced again - recapping that level of detail for the whole build up (while great for the reader to get the full context) feels hardly authentic in a dialogue... Since the story is written in 1st person, I'd only keep the subjective emotions/motivations in the reply to Nora and convert the objective details of what happened into Greg's internal reminiscence.

Anyway, those are just my personal preferences and it doesn't really detract from the overall quality of your writing that deserves full 5 stars in any case ;)

We've been living as a couple now for nearly five years. I'm fifty-nine, she in sixty-six and retired last year. We have a wonderful life together. Your story has similarities to my actual life. My sister and I are both fans of your writing and this is our favorite story.
