Something's not right with this story. New Year's is a time when people expect kissing to occur, so if her husband and his wife aren't suspicious of this, especially after 13 years, then the only logical conclusion is that both their spouses are also kissing other people and maybe more. The simplest explanation is that at the same time they were committing adultery their spouses were also committing adultery with each other and have been for the last 13 years. Which probably means that he and his wife planned the whole thing.

Unsure if a 13 year affair is really the simplest explanation here, but I like the conspiracy angle, it’s so wonderfully abusive! Maybe I should delve into these two couples deeper?
