Back when I made that horrible choice in Miami to betray my husband, I thought that no one would get hurt, but the truth is that everyone got hurt. Craig Miller and I deserved everything that happened to us, but Chris never deserved any of it.

I guess if there's any justice in this world it would be that Chris was able to overcome his pain and build a successful writing career and an incredible family. I won't lie and tell you that I'm not just a bit jealous of what he has, because he's living the life we dreamed about from the time we were fifteen years old until I screwed everything up.

As for the two adulterers, we got exactly what we deserved. Craig Miller never performed surgery again after punching Chris at that party. He had multiple surgeries on his broken hand, but he never got the mobility back that he needed to safely operate on patients. He continued to work in his cardiology practice, but he was relegated to diagnostic work while one of his partners handled surgeries for his patients.

Then there's me. On the one hand, my affair led to a much-needed change of careers and I have been happy teaching high school biology for the past ten years. But my personal life has been a mess. I guess Chris got his wish from that day our divorce was finalized. I sabotaged most of the long-term relationships I've had over the years. The one I didn't ruin, my then fiancé ruined when I caught him cheating.

I run into Chris and Holly at the beach occasionally and we still hang out some. But it's ironic, back in college Holly was in love with Chris but he made it clear that he was only interested in me. Now, I'm still in love with him, but Chris continually makes it clear that the only woman he's interested in is Holly.

Sometimes we all come to a crossroad in our lives where we have to make a choice. I wish I had been more careful when I came to that crossroad in Miami. But at the time, I didn't understand that once you make your choice and head down a road that you have no business on that sometimes there's no way back.

I agree with the writer of the story that betrayal should have consequences. However, in this particular story, the wife confessed on her own without any pressure from her husband. So, the husband's logic that he does not trust her and that he does not believe any word that comes out of her mouth is completely wrong. If she was lying, she would not have needed to confess, and he would not have known anything. Therefore, I think that his position is entirely wrong. It was a big mistake that happened once and will not be repeated due to her deep remorse.

He could have punished her severely, first by exposing her at work, embarrassing her with her family, forcing her to leave work, go to the doctor's wife and confess to her, then forcing her to sign a new contract in which she would lose everything if he divorced her later due to betrayal. However, I think that his behavior is inappropriate and excessive. We are all human, and we all make mistakes. If the mistake happens once and for specific reasons and the wrongdoer admits to themselves and commits to not repeating this mistake, in this case, the other party must forgive them after punishing them severely so that they learn not to make a mistake again.

The story is good, but the husband's reaction is unjustified, especially since he loves her very much.

Enjoyed the story. I am not convinced that Mallory learned her lesson. She just decided on a whim and maybe jealously of the other female sales reps - to "I have only been with one guy in my life I deserve to have at least one sexual adventure with another man regardless of being married." Decides to hook up with one of her customers (that is not bright!). Then, she comes home and right after making love to Chris she announces that she cheated during the convention and just expects him to forgive her. That cold-hearted! During the year of separation she doesn't seem too torn up about it. She tries to feel better about herself because she (1) was honest with her husband & (2) the cheating gave her the courage and opportunity to change careers. Finally, 10 years later she discovers that she hasn't realized the full extent that she hurt her husband by her one time cheating.
