It's not a bad chapter, but it reads conspicuously short compared to the fore and aft, less an interlude than an intermission. I gather the way the story's structured, each episode is built around a specific theme, so I suppose it couldn't have been easily tacked on to a longer scene.

Completely agreed! I think this was my attempt to throw a "smut bone" after a few dry chapters but I admit, there's not too much of a plot to the this on, other than Portia trying to "fuck the pain away" and not doing so great as a mother so far. It's an anomaly in this series, included for completion's sake.
