Chapter 5: Gone Too Far

The clock was approaching two in the morning. The house was silent as Shawn sat in the living room and watched science fiction movies with the volume muted. He eventually calmed his nerves after his episode with the chair. However, he felt ashamed of himself after reflecting on his behavior. His emotions had become so erratic since Kendall moved back in, but there was no excuse for behaving the way he did.

A hot shower and some herbal tea straightened him out. It was a recipe Kendall showed him when they were younger. He always doubted the power of tea until she showed him otherwise. Hot herbal tea with a scoop of honey, a pinch of ground mint, and a good-sized piece of cinnamon did something for the nerves that was hard to explain. She only had to convince him to try it once to be a believer.

He sipped his tea and watched silent movies waiting for Kendall to return. He promised to wait for her whenever she went out on weekends unless she told him she wasn't coming home. Despite being an adult, Kendall didn't like the dark or being alone. So it was always better for her if someone waited for her.

It was ten minutes until two, and he had not heard from her. Shawn tried not to think about his meltdown earlier as he waited. Instead, he let the endless wave of shitty, low-budget science fiction movies distract him as he waited to hear the sound of a vehicle pulling into the driveway.

He was beginning to feel slightly worried, as Kendall would usually come home by midnight. However, his gut told him she was having a good time because she had to return to work the following Monday. So he figured they were making the most of her last night off.

His eyes periodically glanced at his phone on the coffee table, anticipating a notification, but Shawn repeatedly talked himself out of calling or texting her. Kendall would be okay with him checking in, but he didn't want to seem overly concerned or interrupt her night out. Like Bradley, Kendall's friends sometimes insinuated that something was happening with her brother. They were not mean or hurtful about it like Bradley, but their jokes still bothered Kendall, and Shawn knew that. So he tried not to check in too often so as not to encourage their poking.

There was suddenly a noise that broke the silence. The sound of keys rattling against the lock made Shawn's head perk up as he turned to face the door. He thought it strange that he didn't hear the usual drunken goodbyes or even so much as a car door shut. Even so, Kendall appeared in the doorway.

"Well?" Shawn greeted her upon entry, "did you have a blast?"

"Hmm?" Kendall hummed as she clumsily kicked her heels off and almost tripped over them.

She was drunk. Her steps were heavy and disoriented, her face was flushed, and her dress was crooked. She never came home like this. Shawn couldn't believe his eyes as he raced from the couch to help her.

"Hey, whoa!" He quietly called out, not to wake their parents, "think you might've overdone it a bit?" He asked as he grabbed Kendall's hand and led her to the couch so she could sit.

"I'm okay!" She laughed, "I had a little more than usual tonight."

"No kidding..." Shawn mumbled, smelling the alcohol on her.

She flopped down on the couch while Shawn walked into the kitchen. He poured a glass of filtered water from her pitcher in the fridge and brought it to her.

"Mmm, thank you," she mumbled, taking a large gulp from the glass and exhaling hard afterward.

Shawn sat down next to her and analyzed her. He had never seen her this drunk before. It was slightly comical, and he tried not to smirk. Kendall's eyes slowly wandered over to his gaze. Even drunk, she looked perfect sitting there staring at him. He couldn't help but admire her as they sat together. Her lips and her beautiful skin captivated him. Her dress showed a large amount of cleavage and most of her thighs. Before he knew it, he could feel himself getting hard in his shorts just from looking at her. He didn't want his twisted thoughts to come out again, so he looked away from her awkwardly.

"Hey," Kendall whispered as her hand awkwardly grabbed onto his chest, "you waited for me," she finished with a big drunken smile.

"Well, yeah..." Shawn said, watching the silent movie on the TV, "I promised I would."

Kendall's grip suddenly started tugging on his shirt as she inched closer. Shawn turned to face her again when he felt her pulling.

"C'mere..." She whispered, getting dangerously close to his face.

"Whoa, whoa, stop!" Shawn retracted, grabbing her hand off his shirt and halting her from coming any closer, "what're you doing?"

"I wanna kiss you," Kendall whispered clumsily with a drunken grin.

Shawn could feel her warm breath on his face as she whispered. He could almost taste her lips as the smell of alcohol filled his senses. His chest tightened as he kept looking down at her lips. She tried to advance again, getting closer this time, but Shawn moved his face away and would not allow it.

Kendall had a distressed look as her second attempt failed.

"What's wrong?" She asked with a puzzled expression.

Shawn's heart began to pound as his dick throbbed. Every moment he spent looking at her luscious lips and beautiful face drove him closer to madness. He was getting more aroused by the second. His thoughts raced as he realized what he could probably get away with right now, but he knew it wasn't right. He could feel his veins flashing beneath his skin as he fought the urge to taste her lips again.

"I just..." He muttered.

"What?" Kendall asked, gently placing a hand on the side of his face.

"I just don't think it's a good idea, Kendall," he finished, pulling her hand off his face and holding it near his lap.

Shawn was determined to hold firm. He knew that doing anything inappropriate with her in this state was even more wrong than doing it at all. Yet, he had to fight himself and think about how she would react if she weren't drunk. How would he handle it the next day if Kendall woke up with regret?

He forced his dirty thoughts aside as he looked back at Kendall. She suddenly had the most provocative look as she scooted closer to him. Shawn grew more nervous as her body rubbed up against his.

"What's the matter?" She asked with an erotic tone, "afraid you're gonna get hard again?"

Shawn was still holding her hand near his lap. Her provocative expression entranced him as she quickly pulled her hand away and gripped his boner right through his shorts. A bolt of frozen lightning shot down his spine as her hand grasped his hard cock. By reflex, his hand reached down to stop her, but he couldn't pull it away. A groan escaped his chest as he felt her gripping him.

Kendall gasped in shock, and her jaw dropped as she held his rock-hard dick in her hand. Her other hand covered her gaping mouth when she felt how hard he was.

"You are hard!" She called out, lowering her hand from her mouth, "I knew it!"

"Knew what!?" Shawn grunted as he tried to resist her, growing nervous about how loud she was getting.

"You totally wanna fuck me!" Kendall said dangerously loud with an enormous smile on her face.

"Ssssshhhh, stop it!" Shawn whispered furiously, pulling her hand from his boner, "Mom and Dad are sleeping upstairs! They'll kill us if they hear you say something like that!"

Kendall was too drunk to listen as she sat there with a suggestive smirk. Shawn couldn't handle the stress of the situation. Things escalated so quickly and without warning. Kendall's unpredictability as of late was now becoming a problem.

"I kinda like it..." Kendall's soft voice spoke out.

Shawn's gaze returned to her as she sat there with the most adorable smirk he had ever seen on her face.

"Like what...?" Shawn asked with a stressed-out tone.

"That you wanna fuck me," she responded, smiling at him with delight.

"Aaaaand you're done," Shawn said as he stood up from the couch, "you're going to bed. Come on."

Kendall made a disappointed face.

"But why?" She cried like a toddler being sent to bed, "I wanna stay up with you!"

"No, Kendall. I'm taking you upstairs, and you're going to bed. Things have gone far enough," he said firmly, holding his hand out.

Kendall begrudgingly grabbed his hand with a sour face as he hoisted her up from the couch and guided her toward the steps. She struggled on the first couple of stairs. Shawn suddenly felt terrible trying to make her walk while drunk.

"Here, grab onto me," he whispered, lowering himself before her.

Shawn wrapped his arms around her ribs and lifted her from the ground. Kendall threw her arms around his neck and coiled her legs around his waist. His boner was prodding right against her crotch as he carried her.

"Is that your boner?" Kendall giggled loudly.

"Ssshhh, quiet!" Shawn whispered aggressively, "you'll wake Mom and Dad up."

As he carried her, he could smell the alcohol clearly while she clung to him. He held her tightly, feeling how soft and warm she was. His heart was pounding as he carried her up the steps.

Shawn had reached the top of the stairs and was in the clear. He turned to face her bedroom but was startled by the sound of a door opening behind him. His body jolted, not knowing which one of their parents to expect. He still had an erection and feared the worst.

"She okay?" Their mom's voice called into the hallway.

"Y-yeah, Mom. I think she just had a few too many," Shawn answered, horrified of what would happen if she had been listening.

"Thanks for waiting up for her. I know you're probably tired," she said graciously.

"Yeah," Shawn replied, exhausted, "I'm gonna get her to bed, and then I'm turning myself in for the night."

"Okay. Good night, honey," she finished, closing the door back.

He waited to hear the door click before heading straight for Kendall's room. Shawn breathed out in relief as he approached her bed. Their mom would have hung him from the wall if she had known what was happening between them less than a minute ago.

As he laid her on her bed, he couldn't help but notice her features. One of her breasts was almost entirely out of her dress, exposing a small corner of her nipple. The bottom of her outfit bunched itself up, exposing her ass and underwear. She was wearing a thong, something he had never seen her wear before. He carefully removed her watch and other jewelry to ensure she slept comfortably through the night while struggling to ignore her lovely, exposed body.

Shawn pulled a blanket over her and gave her a soft nudge, motioning her to roll over. He knew she was a stomach sleeper. After tucking her in, Shawn sat on the bed and watched her, reflecting on everything that had happened lately. Things had become so abnormal since Kendall moved back in. It was hard for Shawn to wrap his head around.

He listened to her breathing and watched her back gently expand rhythmically. Shawn couldn't fathom how beautiful she was as he gently moved her hair from her face. Even a drunken mess, he still thought she was perfect. His feelings toward her had become more overwhelming with each new development between them.

He slowly stood up from the bed and suddenly felt a hand grab his shirt. He turned to face Kendall, and she held onto him while appearing asleep.

"Don't go," she mumbled with her eyes closed.

"You need to go to sleep, Kendall," Shawn answered, pulling her hand from his shirt.

"No," she fought him, not wanting to let go, "stay with me. You have to stay," she sighed, barely awake.

"Kendall..." Shawn sighed with heavy eyes, wishing he could make it to his bed.

"Don't go. I love you," Kendall whined as her grip failed and her arm hung over the side of the bed.

Shawn fixed her arm and rested it on the bed next to her. He could hear her breathing become heavier and slower. She was finally out. Shawn was ready to leave her room, and suddenly, he froze where he stood as he looked at Kendall's face. She was crying. Tears ran from the corners of her eyes to her pillow as she slept before him.

His chest tightened as he watched her delicate tears run down her beautiful face. Did rejecting her kiss cause her to become emotional? Shawn finally closed his eyes and swallowed hard, telling himself he needed to go to bed. It wasn't a good idea to let his mind spiral into that place right now.

He went to the exit, looking back at her one last time in the doorway.

"I love you too..." He whispered, closing her door for the night.

Chapter 6: Fifteen Minutes

The brisk morning breeze of Saturday came quicker than expected.

Shawn's body was heavy, and his eyes ached as he woke to his alarm. Staying up late the night before was harder on him than he anticipated. He gave in to the snooze button that morning for the first time in a while, not wanting to wake up.

He was having flashbacks of Kendall grabbing his shirt and trying to kiss him and the warmth of her body as he carried her up the steps. He was still processing the fact that she groped him through his shorts. His mind struggled to rationalize her lewd behavior on the couch. Shawn's instincts told him that it was the alcohol. His mind wanted to believe she was out of control and didn't know what she was doing.

Another part of him prodded at the idea that Kendall may secretly have inappropriate thoughts toward him. Perhaps she hid them as he did, and the alcohol made them come out. Shawn didn't know what to think, and the more he thought about it, the more it stressed him out. No matter how hard he tried, he could not escape the thought of her lips so close to his and how badly he wanted to kiss her again.

Sleeping in was his opportunity to collect his thoughts and digest the intensity of what happened between them. He dismissed his next alarm instead of snoozing it and fell back asleep.

Shawn woke again with a slight jolt, worried he had slept too long. He didn't want to waste his weekend just because he was tired. Shawn reached for his phone in a panic and was immediately relieved to see that it was just past ten in the morning. He had only fallen back asleep for an hour. Not wanting to chance his luck dozing off again, he opted to get out of bed and start his day.

His morning routine felt strange. Brushing his teeth in the mirror, he wondered if Kendall was awake. For the first time in his life, he dreaded seeing her. Shawn wondered how much of last night she remembered and what their interactions would be like.

As he turned the handle in the shower, he imagined scenarios of what might happen when he saw Kendall today. He lost himself in thought under the scolding hot water. Things had already been so strange between them, so how would he face her after last night?

On top of that, he was feeling particularly raw about her advancements. It wasn't fair that he had these feelings for her that were already difficult to manage, only to have them provoked despite his efforts to hide them.

His anxiety began to build as he got dressed. He wondered if it would be better to avoid her entirely today, as awful as that sounded. It wasn't even her fault.

Shawn went downstairs and headed into the kitchen, where Kendall sat at the table with her legs crossed in the seat. Kendall never sat the right way at a table. She was wearing a t-shirt and panties again, eating a bowl of cereal. She looked rough, but Shawn could tell she had showered and cleaned herself up that morning. He forced himself not to look at her.

"Hey," she greeted him with a mouth full of cereal.

"Hey," Shawn replied, avoiding looking at her and going straight for the fridge to make his coffee.

He pulled out his cold brew pitcher and proceeded to fix his usual. Kendall continued eating her cereal and didn't say anything as Shawn silently prepared his coffee. He could feel Kendall staring at him and wondering why he wasn't saying anything as she repeatedly glanced at him between bites. It was awkward.

Shawn immediately left the kitchen and headed back upstairs once he assembled his drink, causing Kendall to flip her spoon in her hand as she watched him go, like a silent "what the fuck." Watching him walk away without saying anything made her worry something was wrong, but she didn't know what.

Upon re-entering his room, Shawn sat at his desk and thought about how his behavior could cause strain between them. Kendall was a communicator by nature. She was generally unafraid to let people know how she felt and preferred to address issues early and head-on. Someone having a problem with her and not communicating it stressed her out. Of course, he didn't want that, but he wasn't ready to speak to her yet. He wanted to have his coffee, wake up, and relax. Surely one afternoon of not talking wouldn't kill her.

The clock approached noon, and the house remained eerily quiet. Shawn didn't leave his room for anything, and Kendall stayed downstairs doing busy work. She needed to do laundry, but the laundry room was in the basement, and she did not like being alone. In addition, she was deathly afraid of spiders, which commonly inhabited that part of the house.

Things felt strange today, and she couldn't bring herself to bother Shawn for help after his distant behavior that morning, so, as expected, she began overthinking. Her first set of worries came from what she may have said or done last night to upset him. She had no recollection of getting home last night, and the only person in the house who had spoken to her that day was their mom. She told Kendall how Shawn carried her like a baby to her room around quarter after two in the morning.

She racked her brain, trying to piece together what could've happened. Everything from texting friends to see when they dropped her off to investigating the living room for messes or signs of being an obnoxious drunk. Nothing raised any flags. All evidence suggested that Shawn had her in her bed within fifteen minutes of walking in the door, which was accurate.

Kendall's brain had now finished concocting her concentrated dosage of psychological torment for the day; what could have possibly happened in that fifteen minutes that made Shawn act like this today?

A pit formed in her stomach as thoughts of her recent feelings coming out with no filter came to mind. She remembered feeling butterflies in her chest as she left the house. Incidentally, all she thought about the entire time she was at the club was why kissing Shawn made her feel the way it did. What should have been a harmless peck left her heart pounding and her lips tingling. She distinctly remembered resolving that Shawn could never know how she felt, but how could Kendall be sure if she wasn't in control when she got home? A feeling of regret festered in her stomach as she recalled ordering more and more drinks to get their kiss off her mind.

"Fuck..." She whispered to herself, covering her face with her hands as she sat on the couch in the basement.

Kendall was entering a mild panic at this point. Finally, it was all beginning to make sense. She couldn't remember even one second of coming home or going to bed that night, and it horrified her that she may have done or said something fucked up to her brother in her drunken state. She sat on the couch and spiraled, unable to talk to him and alleviate the situation. She wondered what he must have been thinking right now.

Shawn felt relief by keeping to himself for the day but was starting to get hungry. He had not eaten breakfast and could feel his stomach demanding tribute as he stayed busy grinding on his favorite MMO.

"Dammit," he mumbled as he began craving a giant burrito from the local shop just down the road.

Jalapenos, pineapple, grilled bell peppers, chicken, black beans, rice, cheese, and mango salsa packed into a hot tortilla was his favorite thing from there. His mouth nearly itched just thinking about it.
