Loving this series, but can we please maybe have someone live? We get invested in the main characters and within a couple chapters there are killed off while young. Yes war is hell but.......

Response to character death

Books 7-8 deals with the life of Charlus and his long life. But read book 6...WHEN the Enhanced Edition gets published; that champion has a short life but so much is learned in that revised book. It has been in queue for publication for over a week now. A lot of the answers as to 'why this is occurring' are discovered in the Enhanced Editions of the stories.

I have 7-8 Enhanced edition to look over final comments from my proof-reader/editor if you will. I have 9-10 that will go to him in a few days to review. Books 7-10 will likely come out in July with Aurora part 6 and the Champion of the Goddess parts 2-4 coming out as well in July and August.

Books 11 and 12 Enhanced Editions are likely in August or September. I am still working dialog changes/Additions in 11-12. When I undertook writing the Silvertree Chronicles I wrote the original over the span of 6-7 months. With over 1.3 million words.

Book 1 was the size of 6 books in length, but it was my freshman effort and set a foundation for the books that followed. But I found as I spent more time writing this and other stories that something was missing.

I was thinking about what the supporting characters reactions were and in some cases the 'Gods thinking' and left them out of the originals. I have been going through and finding those words and where it makes sense, inserting that additional dialog. Overall, the stories are getting a 10-20% increase in size or average.

Over the course of 12 books, there is 1 well documented hero (book 2) and 10 Champions that are well documented. 4 other champion, not to Corellon, are brushed over in these stories. Of those 10, 3 lived a full measure of life. Sometimes the brightest stars burn out the quickest.

But, when 'a couple of chapters' is equal to 2-3 books, it's not like they are a side note in the series. A multi-generational story like ES has crafted, AND set in an era of constant conflict, accented by a war every 80 years or so, is going to eat up characters. Especially when they are hard chargers like those of the Silvertree family.

What I find interesting is ES's choice of ~80 years between wars. The US has averaged 80 years between major conflicts, for its entirety. There is an excellant book on the topic, exploring why we humans are in an 80 year cycle.

The main thesis is the generation which is late teens to young middle age adults, and bears the brunt of soldier duty gets turned off by war due to direct involvement, and then spends the rest of their lives avoiding another.

The younger generations gradually lose the memories of the horror and destruction of war, until a new generation of leaders and influencers is dominant in our society and without any first hand knowledge of the destruction(s) of war. This leads them to more likely push towards armed conflict, and/or avoiding war at all costs. And the cycle repeats.

'When we ignore history, and its lessons, we are doomed to repeat them.'

Nn truer words were ever spoken.

After coming of age in the Vietnam era, I thought we would surely never be involved in major war, again. Boy, was I naive.

My sincere hope is, as more of our country's leadership becomes female, and this younger, more tolerant, young generation ages, we will finally be able to break the 80 year cycle. One can only hope.

'Amy Silvertree'?

Travious Silvertree only had four wives: Merial, Majista, Gia and Angel. Who is Amy? Should it be Angel, not Amy? (I certainly recall Angel was her given name, or have forgotten it was Amy, if that IS the case.) Either way, it is confusing.

I saw Amy in the beginning of the next book, (#4), and came back to make this note, since I'd forgotten about it, previously. Hopefully, it will prepare others, and avoid further confusion.

Amy Trsyt was John's wife. A word transfer that will be out in a new edit in the next couple of months. It should read Angel.
