I absolutely loved this. I was drawn in and couldn't put it down. This was so amazing and interesting!
@enbypolypan - I'm the author - Thank you. Feel free to check out my other works, see my bio page. Lots of stuff now. I'm working my way through stories I wrote starting 15 years ago, revising and making ready, then publishing here and elsewhere. Edits take time but are fun; my style has changed a little over time, it's fun to read myself (LOL). I'll have at least another 6 to 10 works in over the next six months, plus quite a few where I know I have to change some structure. Mostly it's for my fun, but it's also great to hear someone else enjoys things I've spent time (hundreds of hours, probably) on.
Parts were great. The political stuff could have been decreased by half without impacting the story.
Anonymous: Yes. Could have done. I tried to preface it with, 'yeah, dystopia' but maybe that's forgotten by the time any random reader gets down into the thick of it. The point was, the choices of an AI, or a group of them, are not going to be the choices a random citizen will make. Even a benevolent dictator is still a dictator, and while this might be politically classified as fascist authoritarian (albeit enlightened) despotism, it's still over the top on purpose to make the point that it's determining things FOR us, not With us. Still, fun to write, I'm glad you found some parts worthwhile at least. Peace out -
