I'm confused, who is Bev? I reread part one and I can't find a Bev.

Anonymous, you are not the only one confused who is Bev? It’s a good story but there is not any tie in with surprising us with new characters.

I was enjoying this until it ground to a halt with an unknown “Bev”.

He explains who Bev is in part 2. You were supposed to read some of his earlier stories with Bev in it.

But I was going to comment on 'turning black and falling off'. Back in the 60's we called it 'moby dick'. And then because of the band Moby Grape it came to be visualized as turning purple and falling off.

Obviously reading the comments I wasn’t the only one to wonder “who the hell is Bev, did I miss an entire character?”. Still, that isn’t a great way to write a story, where you get the reader thinking they’ve screwed up somewhere, when it’s actually about to be revealed in the next chapter. 4⭐️
