That blow never came. Over the next 5 minutes the house collapsed entirely into rubble, but every beam missed her. Even as she rode the ancient bed to the ground, every brick fell to the side. Someone noticed what was happening, and shortly after that, the fire trucks and ambulances showed up. Anna was carried off to safety, but she'd never feel safe again, especially after she started to show only a few weeks later.
