It’s a believable fantasy. The only part I found unrealistic was her original hypothesis it’s painfully naive. It’s not difficult to predict the reactions of strangers when the following apply:

* subject is young female

* the people interacting with subject will remain anonymous

* the location is secluded

It’s hardly rocket science, a follow up with the guy who gave her the key would be interesting. He meets in a bar/ coffee shop chats her up and tells her he released her. All kinds of fascinating deliciousness could happen.
