Only a few stories I’ve read that the opening has me completely confused. You placed the story in humor/satire however from this reading should be in Sci/Fantasy. Is this an earth based story or far flung galaxy? No problem believing the other roommates are aliens but what is April? A feta, cross dresser, tranny?
