Kanto’s response is chilling. Makes me think of a situation back in college. I attended a school in the Deep South and I’m a black female. Racism is in the state’s DNA, and at college it was most apparent in fraternity and sorority members. I took a class on the Civil War and it was only me and, like, four frat guys. (My presence fucked up their misogynistic and racist vibe — they couldn’t say what they really wanted to say.) One of the guys had a thing for me, and it was obvious he didn’t enjoy it. I’ll never forget the mix of lust and disgust on his face. Reminiscent of Kanto’s thoughts.
