Pt. 1 was very good: well written, intelligent, reminiscent of the novel "Mariette in Ecstasy." There was a sense that, as with Mariette, what had drawn Susanne to the convent was at least rooted in a transcendant yearning. But here we get the abbess saying, "It is my will, not God's." I hope this story is more than just "Fifty shades" in sixteenth century drag. I hope that Susanne keeps looking for something deeper, something transcendent, whether she is finally able to encounter it at the abbey of St. Hildegard or not.
