I gave it 5 stars because it is very very good. That said the male lead Lord Cumberland is still an absolute fucking cretin, it just beggars belief that anyone could be that stupid. He felt guilty so he came looking for her, it’s obvious that he cares about her. Or rather it’s obvious to the reader.

It’s quite easy to paint the picture that their time together pre auction was essentially an escape from reality for both of them. Even though she’d said yes to the idea of setting up a classy discreet brothel it’s not difficult to conclude that she didn’t have a clue about any realities of that option.

I was pretty shocked by his statement of,

“ I knew those other men would not be easy or gentle with you and I could not let them have you.”

That said he STILL plans to set her up as a Madam, he’s the one who turned her into a whore. He wasn’t gentle with her either, dry fucking any woman virgin or not is NOT being gentle. Becoming a prostitute is not every little girls dream. It’s highly probable that the very best he can offer her is to become his mistress (not in the BDSM style). Even that isn’t guaranteed security, not in that era. That said this is a fantasy story so the final outcome can literally be anything.

So yeah, great chapter! The affectation of the accent was a bit cringeworthy but I don’t have any decent suggestions on how else to portray her ‘disguise’/ alternate persona, so I just went along with the cheesy accent. Lol, either you’re an absolute savant or I’m having a really bad day because I cried like a girl all the way through this chapter (luckily I am a girl!) I think the real answer is a medium of those two options.
