Good stuff - really enjoyed this tale - look forward to the next one - thank you
A worthy prequel to "Split Trails Ranch". Well Done! Looking forward to the Sequel.
What's this? Oh, just another out-of-the-park home run of a western from qhml1. It's a roaring tale of claim jumpers, love and loss set in Texas & the Colorado territory, and (if you enjoyed Split Trails Ranch) gives you a lot of background on the Walter's boys.
Folks, this is a 5-star, well worth your time read.
I think you my be taking a shot at Zane Grey status soon. Very well done!
A long look into the Walter boys. As usual your work is very enjoyable and I can't wait for the next chapter.
Don't let the people at Lit discourage you and please keep posting. I'd hate to see you leave us.

Really great story, I enjoy almost all western themed writings. You seem to enjoy writing them also. Keep up your writing and I will be sure to look for any new stories. For all you naysayers, the number of errors in this tory have all been overshadowed by a very good tale. THANKS
Excellent story! Love western stories so much I rate it with 25 stars! lol
You are one hell of a writer. When I was younger, I loved Louis L'Amour stories and while I was reading your story, I actually thought I was back in time reading another L'Amour story. This is one fine story.
Thank you for your writing and I enjoy all your stories and can't wait for the next one.
Excellent read!
Wonderful settings, great characters coupled with a good pace to complement the well thought out story line.
Well done. Looking forward to your next offering.
I love this series... I'd be mighty grateful for more :)... thanks!
qhml1 You are one of the best writers on this site at this time. You draw the reader in and you're stories make us believe that we are there as part of the action. Thankyou.
Loved it. Just a few days ago I reread Split Trails Ranch and was pleasantly surprised to see this one. Looking forward to your next one.
Thank you! This is a worthy prequel to "Split Trails Ranch" and I'm looking forward to it's sequel
Q you have a gift, this is as good as any Louis L'Amour novel. And I thought 'Split Trails Ranch' was good, this one is equal. Looking forward to Part 3.

6*, Hooyah, Salutes to a Master...
This is a very well crafted tale, with well developed characters and realistic plot lines. The beginning and end of the story each provide a logical terminus within which the story fits very comfortably. This author understands how to tell an interesting story and how to fully engage the reader’s interest. He also has littered the story with clues that stoke an interest in reading the next episode in the lives of his main protagonists. This story is exemplary of the best writing that can be found on this website. If there were any rating higher than 5, this story would deserve a higher rating. Exceptionally good story-telling and excellent writing.
That was extremely well done. I couldn’t stop reading once I started. I hope to be able to read the next story someday. Thanks
Move over Zane Grey, and Louis L’ Amour because qhml1 just wrote a gem of a western!
I think it was AWESOME great job n i hope u continue this story line. Thanks for all ur hard work.
Put all three stories together in a book (a PDF would be great) and I'll pay for it. Awesome writing.
A great story. I hope we get to read more after the upcoming one mentioned. It has exaggeration, but most good stories do the same. Characters larger than life are to be found in all good books. Thank you.
You are a truly great storyteller!!! wish I could give more than 5 STARS!!!
What a Great story. Can't wait for #3. Always great to see your stories. Thanks for sharing.
Super work! A great tale and left me waiting for more. Can’t top that. All the stars are there.
Story has a good feel. Characters work really well. Better than lots of stuff being sold on Amazon, way better.
Another great story Q! I’d forgotten how much I like Westerns, especially if they aren’t all shoot-em-ups. The story is very believable and you do a great job fleshing out your characters. Looking forward to seeing Brad again🙂
Excellent. Reads like an Elmore Leonard western. Thank you for the few hours of thoroughly enjoyable entertainment.
Another amazing tale. Great plot line - very believable and well developed. I liked your character development and you nailed the mountain topography. Fantastic job.
great story. I read "Split Trails" some time ago when you published. This was a great addition not Louis Lamoure but just as captivating. 5 stars from this old western lover.
Cheers

The feel and language of that milieu makes it completely believable, and iI was hooked after 1 paragraph. Do not mess with the Walters. 5* all the way through
Always look forward to your stories. Wish there was some way that Literotica had a “virtual tip jar” for great stories such as this one.
Remarkable as always. This is one hell of a story. 5 star I must add. Lastly, you have kept us waiting so long for the remaining parts of The Rocky Raccoon. Please finish that up. And I can't wait for the one you mentioned regarding Brad and his woman. Thumbs up.
I read Split Trails just before beginning this. prior, I had been skeptical that you could do justice to a western (I'd read every Louis L'Amour multiple times, owning all). I'm embarrassed I doubted you Q. Thank you for a great read.
somewhere east of Omaha
Yep, having been raised on L'Mour and Zane Grey, I really, really enjoyed this tale. I've read damn near every word Louis ever wrote. You make me want to see if I can do a tale justice.
Long live the Western families.
Awesome read! I can’t wait for the next instalment of the Walters Brothers.
No way a story on Lit carries a 4.93 rating...
Had to check that out myself. If you haven't read this one yet, be advised that it is one proofread away from D'Amour paperback contender. Read it fast before you have to actually pay for it, or visit the library.
Thanks to Q for a great tale, well written. Five Stars!
Keep 'em comin'.
Yes, now I have a hankering to watch the Sacketts, and Lonesome Dove again. This story is that good. Five Stars ain't enough. Thank you for it.
I’m a great big fam of Westerns. Books, stories, movies and just about anything else that I can find. Being raised around the Western culture has made me that way and I make no apologies for it. I must say that I have totally enjoyed your story and would love to read more if any more become available. I’m also a great fan of most of your work though it is sometimes a little hard to follow. Thanks so much for sharing so that I may enjoy.
Wow, excellent job. I loved Split Trailes and i think this was even better. If this was made into a movie i would definitely watch it.
qhml1 rate your stories right there with Zane Grey & Louis Lamour . need to read Split trails again. this one is the lead into it!
Another excellent tale. I, personally, thought Split Trails was better, but not by much. Keep up the excellent writing!
Munchie184.
All right! I was wondering when you were going to publish or epublish a book (if you have already then I am missing out 🤔). Please drop a line in your Bio I will definitely be interested. I know of several who have Epublished and I have purchased many from writers who cut there writing teeth on this site. Several even admitted they got started on an adult website. As I have read from several stories ‘writing is writing’. Yes I follow you and have several favorites so please get the word out on a future novel western or otherwise.
Please do keep writing and I will keep reading!
Oops well I guess I have read too many books forgot I have read all your books I am aware!?. I have all the Bloodcost series and I do have your name book marked and following so I think I up to date but will check and look forward to your future western! Mostly read books and buy via the big A.
Enjoy your retirement but it sounds like I will also be enjoying it with my reading! Sadly not near retirement for me but I will keep working and reading on my off hours. Looking forward to your new writing work life. I sincerely appreciate your writing. Hope it continues to make you happy to write as it does me to read.
Congratulations on winning the contest for this story. Well deserved! Finn
Excellent! Such a good read that I had to finish it and lose a little sleep. And congrats on your win. Much deserved. Thank-you for your writing talent
I had to read Split Trails again when I saw you released this one, both are unbelievably good stories. I knew Elsa was going to die but it didn't stop the tears.
If this was a paper book I would have been turning pages fast see what was going to happen next. This is a great Western story and really deserves all these kudos you have gotten . This continuing story would make a wonderful novel, Very entertaining.
You continue to impress with solid writing and great stories. I'm so glad that this won an award as well. Can't wait to see what else comes from your fertile mind!
I thought it was a rip-roaring story in the best of Western storytelling tradition. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it and found it to be well written and highly entertaining. I already have you bookmarked as a favorite writer and you did not disappoint me with this story. WELL DONE! I look forward to the next story or stories featuring Bradley J Walter's. I also think Zeke Walter's deserves a story or stories of his own.
It respectfully rivals any good tale of the West's early days. Some of it is hard to believe, but all the great epic tales share that, from the siege of Troy to Cuchulainn to the Vikings etc. etc. Couldn't have enjoyed it more.
Hurry and write the follow up story about Bradley Walters. Have read this story and Split Trails Ranch at least three times ..
I loved Split Trails Ranch, read it many
times and consider it to be a Classic
and one of the best ever work posted
here.
This...Wow...this was the cherry on the sundae,
and revealed some of their past and
how the W brothers became rich;
excellent prequel.
Many Thanks, Q., and feel free to further
explore this setting whenever the mood
strikes you.
Very enjoyable, not a major point to the story but shotguns while devastating, do not cut men in half or leave holes that you can look through.
You’ve done a great job with your westerns, I know that is not exactly your genre, but I’ve been real impressed with your efforts on The Walters brothers, and Rocky the raccoon. Speaking of which, you owe us that last Rocky chapter, I hope it’s on the schedule.
Thanks for the time and effort you put in for us. KS
