"I fucking came," he grumbles. "Before you."
"I love you, Rakeem," I blurt.
He lifts his head and looks into my eyes. He heard it. He heard the difference.
Right now Key's breaths seem steady, but I know him. I know his sounds and his expressions and his moods. I can see how his smooth skin gets shiny and glows when it's flushed with heat. I can see how his full lips part. His Adam's apple bobs. The pulse point in his throat flutters. His nostrils flare.
All of these things are subtle. And I know them. I know them because he's mine.
Therefore, I can tell that he barely has his shit together.
I lift my head to give him a peck on the lips.
"Do you mean that?" he finally exhales.
"Yes. For a while," I swallow. He's mostly soft but still inside me and I want him there forever.
"I broke rule two. I caught feelings," I confess, absolutely terrified.
He kisses me then. Long and deep and once again my mind goes completely blank. This kiss makes every other kiss in my life feel like a complete joke. His soft lips press against mine
When he draws back to look at me again.
"I broke rule two somewhere in junior high," he whispers with a grin. "I've lived a life of crime ever since."
My breath hitches, and he strokes my cheek with a knuckle.
"I love you, Veronica."
And it doesn't feel bad, or scary, or stressful at all.
