Decent job. Not a fan of the subject but I like your words. I wonder- would the speaker’s opinion of her beauty change if it were scarred and someone loved her still? Would it cause her to lighten up and accept the offered love? That method worked for a knight I know named Valerie in a popular fantasy video game.

Thought provoking and emotional. Something you do so well.

We're all human. We all have feelings and insecurities. Beauty is just a label. Thanks for attempting to get us to see beyond it.

Beautiful, and beautifully said.

I really loved this one!!! It captured an interesting side of the "mystery woman"!! Maybe I should write one about about what it's like to be practically invisible...

Well written, and poignant. I've known some beautiful women in my life, there was some insecurity in most of them. The most beautiful physically was also an molecular biologist, her brain was clearly her most lovely feature and would be her entire life. But she was a definite unicorn. We walked into a restaurant one time and I noticed the silence as we were guided to our table. I was batting way above me in going out with her.

Simply excellent writing, five stars.

Beautifull but sad. I had a friend on highschool and she was beautifull inside and out. For her it was many times a curse and a lonely existance. Remembering her I sometimes shed a tear and if only she had just met the right person or if onlly her beauty was not a curse. Forthy years later I still miss her! Thank you!

It's never what they imagine it to be, is it? Its fair game to judge, to envy and dislike, without ever bothering to own exactly why.

It's an invitation to show disrespect because its what they come to expect from 'those like you'. So its only fair to strike first.

After all, you've always had it 'easy' haven't you? And if they decide up front they can never possess you, then its only fair that they do what they can to defile you, in word, if not not in deed.

And if they can drag you down to their level, to bring out the ugly in you? Well, then you were never really any better than them, were you?

I know.

Which means I also know the most beautiful part of you. The one that can't be seen, be owned, or taken. Which means that for a moment, like this, it can be shared.

And its beautiful. Just like you are.

Thank you for sharing this. It hit hard. And if you didn't know exactly what it feels like, then you are perhaps the greatest writer here among us. Because no one imagines that its ever this way.

@jhealy55 - thank you for such a detailed and encouraging comment, I feel obligated to repost it on AH 😊 Em

@jhealy55 - on second thoughts, I think I would be too embarrassed 😬 Em

jhealy55jhealy553 months ago

Please don't. I'm doing my level best to keep the stoic jerk thing intact in AH. The fact that you drew out a rare moment of heartfelt admiration could undo weeks of well-laid artifice. Appreciate it if you'd just let me off the hook and throw me back. Call it professional courtesy and I'll make an effort not to gush in public if I read any more of your stuff.

Perfectly done and spot on. There is so much below the surface that very very few take the time and effort, and yes it is effort, to see and get to know. I love how you brought it all to the surface to been seen and examined.

@DeepTrance - thank you. Like virtually all of my work, the response is divided into loved it and hated it. As a writer, if I get even a few who love a story, I’m pleased 😊 Em

I just wanted to say that I very much enjoyed this piece. It's the first time I've read any of your submissions (I stumbled across your work via the forum), but I will definitely be reading more! Thank you!

@TakeItOrLeaveIt - thank you. I write a wide range of stuff. Not all of it is for a general audience, so please check the category and tags. Emily

You said what you said very well. So many personae you inhabit... How do you do it? Since I'm old and can usually fill the "harmless" role, I have been able to ask many beautiful women about that dynamic. Sometimes I get honest answers, more often I get a stone wall of mistrust and denial, which is understandable. Why would they pick me to trust or confide in? Thank you for such an insightful slice of reality.

Dark again, Emily. I hope that, in fact, you know the Navajo "Walk in beauty." Or at least Yoda's "Luminous beings are we, not this crude stuff!"
