Actually quite liked the story. I think you handled the parenting of a down's syndrome child quite well. My niece has down's and is a lovely person. The ending of the story was rushed the sudden departure of Jill and Mark didn't ring true and perhaps needed a little more detail and background. Perhaps a couple of paragraphs to explain Jill's parents condition and the reasoning for her and Mark leaving. I know you explain that Jill was part of a subterfuge.

The ending with Cameron doesn't ring true. Pretty sure that James would have confronted Leslie about Cameron but I guess you are setting the scene for a second chapter.

So where is part 2?

Giving this a 4, pending the continuation. If there is to be one. Like many commentators, I suspect James and Leslie will eventually get remarried, and am not thrilled. It will be a challenge for Skippy47 to make that work, but it's not impossible, given the touching situation with Evan. For me, I'd prefer to see James and Jill get back together, and aggressively sue to reverse the judge's ruling on custody. Maybe an appeal that could make some new case law for children with developmental challenges. Jill is certainly better qualified to mother Evan, and James' name WAS listed on the birth certificate as father. And really, Leslie is a selfish piece of shit.
