(beat)
Do you have advice for guys like
me?
(beat)
Probably not.
As TONY completes this thought, he passes VITO'S car parked
in the parking lot of Angelica's MaxiMart. He slows to see
if he can spot Vito. Vito is not near his car.
TONY (CONT'D)
(smiling)
What's that bastard doin' here?
Maybe I'll surprise him.
Suddenly, VITO and PHIL LEOTARDO, Lupertazzi capo and number
two man, exit the store. TONY speeds up and parks around the
corner where he can keep visual contact with VITO and PHIL.
TONY (CONT'D)
Motherfucker...
VITO and PHIL look very chummy. They are laughing and
getting along like the best of friends. They embrace and get
into their own cars and go their separate ways. TONY waits
until they pass, then heads back to Satriale's. SILVIO and
CHRIS are in front of the store on the sidewalk.
SILVIO
Hey, T. Back already, huh? What ya
wanna do?
TONY
You ain't gonna believe who I just
saw over at the MaxiMart with our
friend Phil L.
CHRIS
Who?
TONY
Our fat friend who likes to go
missing.
CHRIS
You mean Vito?
TONY
No, I mean Santa Claus! Of fuckin'
course I mean Vito! Aren't you the
one who said he's hard to get a
hold of?
CHRIS
Sorry, T., sorry. But you gotta
admit, we know a lot of fat guys.
TONY
Just shut up. Silvio, what are your
thoughts?
SILVIO
I don't know, T. I hate to accuse
the guy, but what the hell would
Phil be doin' all the way over
here? I guess it don't look too
good.
TONY
We're gonna use this to our
advantage.
SILVIO
How?
TONY
I figure Vito might be a pipeline
to Johnny Sack. Feedin' him
info...that kinda thing.
CHRIS
How about Benny? Do you think he
might be part of it?
TONY
Could be. Now it's starting to
make sense. The good thing, is
that we can skate outta this dead
cop rap. There ain't no motive for
us to have done the hit. John got
unlucky that the cop was there.
SILVIO
Right. If it was just a couple of
dead eggplants on a normal New York
day, that would be page twenty five
news.
CHRIS
(nodding)
Yeah, I'm seein' it too I guess.
But why don't we just take them
both out and be done with it?
TONY
No, then John would know we know.
Now we got an intelligence weapon.
CHRIS
(admiring)
You and that History Channel. Give
me the Cartoon Network anytime!
TONY
Here's what I wanna do about our
dear friend Johnny Sack.
The men huddle together and speak in hushed tones. CHRIS
lets out a big laugh and they all join him.
INT. SUBWAY TRAIN CAR - MANHATTAN - AFTERNOON
The boys are huddled together and shaking. They are
experiencing battlefield shock.
AJ
Oh God, oh God, oh God...
PETEY
Guys, I'm so sorry about that. I
don't know why that piece of shit
Carl left us with that guy. AJ,
you need to ask your dad to help us
with this.
AJ
