I like it! It would be good to see more subtle clues that he actually does care for her. You have already put in some, such as being gentle with her in the bath, giving her ample food and time to rest, etc but I would like to see a few more, particularly as the relationship grows.

What happened? Did she get pregnant? What happens next? Does her father come to check on her? Does the doctor begin to appreciate her?
