"You must not have done much for him, but then again you are a rather boring fuck so I can't blame him." There was a coarse laugh at that comment from someone else who was where ever the voice was.

Dan almost lost it, but managed to keep the growls from his wolf silent. He even managed to keep his eyes from changing, though it was very difficult. What he really wanted to do was to rip the door off it's hinges, and go and find those two, and kill them; but there were more important things to do, such as killing the Alpha, first.

"Please, let me out." Mari knew that begging would only get her laughed at, but she had to try. She imagined they would probably leave her down there for a while just to get her in trouble and beaten by the Alpha.

There was some more laughter, but there was a buzzing sound and the door popped slightly open. When it did, she placed her finger against her lips and motioned to the side in sort of pantomime for "one person".

Dan nodded, then gently moved her out of the way before jerking the door open and whipping around the door jamb. When he saw the guard, his hand instantly wrapped around the man's throat to keep him from making any noise before his other hand slammed into the side of his head and knocked him out. He really didn't want to kill too many, unless he had no choice. There would be time later to weed out the rejects and trash.

With his hand was still wrapped around the guard's throat, he slowly lowered him down and waited for the girl to lead him out of the house. Dan frowned slightly when he realized he hadn't said that to her, and he had to if he was going to take the pack properly. "Outside, for challenge." He barely whispered that in her ear since anyone nearby would be able to hear them if they tried.

She nodded and slowly led him through the large pack house. At one point they came across another female, and Mari motioned for her to get back in the room she was coming from. She got a very startled look when the woman saw the strange man with her.

As with Mari, there was a lurking fear in her eyes. She couldn't help but swallow when she saw the new male. Even from where she was, she could feel power and a sense of deep, abiding anger, and for some reason a trace of sadness as well.

Dan had heard someone moving around, and had been ready to take them out if the person was an enemy. One thing Dan knew was that if he were to look in a mirror his eyes would still be the amber eyes of his wolf, and that wasn't going to change for a while. He nodded slightly at the woman, and she nodded back and began to back away.

Eventually they made it outside, and Mari pointed at a circle that was across the parking lot. She started to move to the side, then she felt his hand grasp her arm. Mari looked up at him with terror in her eyes since she was sure he was going to hurt her just as the other males often did.

He felt her tense up and scented the fresh wave of fear, so Dannrelaxed his grip slightly before leaning over to whisper, "Come with me little one, I can't protect you if you are over here." As he led her across the yard, he glanced around, and frowned since the two vehicles he saw looked like they were from the 50's, sort of. The curves were wrong, and he didn't recognize the emblems, but he ignored the puzzle since it wasn't important.

When they finally reached the circle, he urged her to the far side and then turned to face the house.

Again, he had to stare for a moment since it had an older look to it, but decided that could simply be because of it having been in the pack for many years. Dan slowly inhaled and then spoke. He spoke with force and with a drill Sargent's tone, "Where is that fucking, piece of shit dog who calls himself an Alpha?"

With his words, he could feel his power flowing out as well, and couldn't help but grin. It almost felt like he was back home, when he originally took over the pack. That time he didn't kill the Alpha since he didn't need to, but this bastard was going to die.

Dan's call got an immediate reaction, as lycan's started boiling out of the house. Most of the first were women. He had a feeling that they, more than the senior males, were most interested in removing the current Alpha. Behind them came some of the men, and what really shocked him was when children started coming out of the house. He could tell they were lycan's since the light breeze was blowing towards him.

It was so strange that for a moment he almost was distracted, till the fat Alpha and his two enforcers walked out of the house and caught his attention. A slight smirk crossed Dan's face. "Oh, so the dog let the women and children come out first. Pathetic piece of shit." There was a definite sneer in his voice, and got a growl back from one of the two enforcers.

He laughed and taunted, "God, you have to hide behind some dogs as well? What type of Alpha are you, if you have to have two enforcers to protect you from your pack. God, what a piece of shit you are." Everything he could do to goad the stupid bastard into attacking him, he was using.

That got a snarl from all three of them, and the Alpha forced his way between the two betas. In the past, he might have used the other two to enforce his desires on the pack, but with a challenge like this he had to step up or he would lose the pack, even if he didn't fight. Instead, he looked at the submissive. "Stupid cunt, you will get yours after this."

Dan could feel her shiver and draw back, but he still couldn't help but grin slightly. "God, you are one stupid bastard. I can't wait till I kill you since you are too stupid to really know that Submissives are the center of the pack. Come on, you fat dog." Dan took a stance, waved his fingers in a "come here" gesture at him, and waited.

The Alpha changed as he was walking into the circle and snarled at Dan. He couldn't put up with this, because if he did, he would lose his comfy position. Changed, he was a large wolf, but there was a certain amount of fat on this form as well.

Dan didn't bother changing and sneered when he did. "God, what a piece of shit."

Once the Alpha had fully changed, he launched forward toward Dan, sure that he would win.

When the wolf lunged at him, Dan twisted himself out of the way. His hand flashed forward and grasped the muzzle of the wolf, though he knew that he was going to get hurt by doing so. In the next move, he shifted towards the wolf and forced him towards the ground. His other hand raised in a large fist and flashed down to the base of the wolf's skull. The impact could be heard by all, as well as the snapping of bone.

The wolf hit the ground and started shifting to a nude male as he died on impact of the fist. There was a collective gasp, and both the males and females looked at Dan.

His eyes were still amber as he announced, "My pack. My rules. My punishment. I am the Alpha and I dominate here." His voice was a snarl and laden with his dominance.

Then he looked at the two betas. "You two, you have two choices, run and let me kill you slowly, or face me in the circle and try to win. The first option will be a slow death, and the second will be short but fast. Which is it going to be?"

Blood was flowing off the hand that had been wrapped around the muzzle of the former alpha since he had been impaled by the teeth. Dan didn't seem to be bothered by it as he took a defensive position.

"Come here, you two mutts. I don't care if you come one at a time or together since I am going to kill you anyways." That was greeted by a reaction of the rest of the pack since they didn't really care for them.

One stepped forward, and Dan had to admit that he was sort of impressed by the wolf's bravery. He had just killed the Alpha with one blow, and this wolf was walking up to the circle without thinking about it.

"He was a fat slob, but I am better than he ever was at fighting. You won't kill me nearly as easy, and who knows, maybe I will be the next Alpha." The man was taller than Dan and in pretty good shape. Being a lycan male you just tended to end up well-muscled, but if you actually worked out, it was very easy to be well defined -- and this male was well defined.

"We will see. Now, go for it." Dan wasn't paying much attention to the second male, though he did notice several of the others loosely surround him to keep him from running away.

The challenger stared at him with hard eyes for a moment, then moved forward and took a stance Dan hadn't seen before. For a very brief moment, Dan worried how hard this was going to be, then he banished the thought from his mind and waited for the other wolf to attack.

When he did, he was fast and his first strike almost got through, but Dan managed to deflect it just enough with one arm. He responded and the fight was on. It ended up being a brutal slug fest since the other wolf was pretty good, but Dan had one advantage: he was Alpha and the other wasn't. When the fight ended, Dan had the man pinned on the ground. "You would have been a good beta or enforcer, but I can't allow you to live." Another blow to the back of the head and his neck was snapped as well.

As he stood up, he heard the crack of a gun being fired and felt a surge of pain in his side. He guessed he had moved just enough for the bullet to almost miss. Dan looked at the other beta wolf with a look of almost shock. "You shot me? You have got to be joking, right? What the fuck type of pack is this, if you aren't an honorable enough wolf to actually fight a challenge?"

The four men who had surrounded the man had restrained him, but not in time to keep him from getting one shot off. They were growling at him because even though their former Alpha had been a bastard, he did support the challenge system. It was mostly to get enjoyment out of his two senior wolves beating up on people, but he was very strict about it.

Dan stalked over to the wolf, growling as he did. The growl was low and deep, and resonated from deep in his chest. When he was in front of the man, he didn't say anything, just simply reached over and twisted the man's neck till it snapped. Normally, he would have been quick about it, but in this case he did it slowly to make a point.

"This is now my pack and that is all there is to it. Anyone want to challenge me?" His eyes roved over the others, and an eyebrow slightly raised when he noticed the men were separate from the women and children. He wondered why, but like so many other unusual things, at the moment it didn't matter. What did was finishing taking over the pack.

That would normally take place on a full moon, but he didn't trust anyone in the pack except for the little submissive who had been taking care of him.

Good drugs?

Nah, I have a reason though it takes time to really develop. I tend to let the story write itself and some of the twists and turns shock even me.

Interesting

It seems as though the shimmering he ran through sent him to an alternate reality or at least that is how it seems to me. I wonder what caused the anomaly that sent him there?

Kicking tail and taking names.

Dan put on the beat down and smacked them up one side and down the other. The only thing he could have done more is to tattoo the words. "This will happen to you if you mess with me and mine." On their corpses and hang them up for visitors to see. Glad he didn't though. Might give his pack nightmares.

Sincerely, Payenbrant

When I do get around to re-writing this series I am going to expand on the early chapters. That and I am going to correct some editing errors I have noticed. I will probably expand on the fighting as well. Not a great deal since it isn't something I am experienced with but just to add more details.

Change is in the Air

Proof that fear can only get you so far & Dan fully understands that fear has damaged this pack. Now the real work begins & I can't wait to see how he works to both improve & heal this broken pack. A wonderfully told story about heartbreak and rebirth. Keep up the good work.
