She stretches, steeped too long in dreams
And fights
Against the sun
Against the day
Against the pull of hunger
And the sounds of play
To stay in slumber
To make life wait
But light leans, laughing
Against her lids
Sends shadows down to
Pry anchors from the shores of sleep
‘til the current tows her out to sea
Where she drifts,
Still drowsing
Awash in waves of whens and whys
That crash against her hull.
