Would've been better if it were more lesbian-focused. I get it's a young mage's story, her coming-of-age story in a way, but I do think this is better with more lesbian-focused attention. Like, maybe this young mage eventually becomes stronger and maybe, fast forward, she becomes a den mother some 8 years later, maybe she's the youngest Den Mother, and maybe she chooses to go her own way in raising her underlings. Maybe she falls for the underling. Maybe she retires and lives a quiet life with her own Den Mother.

Just a few suggestions.
