Basic writing rule #1. Pick a point of view and stick with it. You started with first person (J narrating) and suddenly were describing things in the third person.

Very nice. Might have mentioned he was widowed and not actually married a bit sooner. Almost quit reading....

Great story. You stated you do your own editing and it shows. The typos are common word replacement's. The human mind will gloss over them if you wrote the material. I only mention this since on the site the is some people that will edit for you and proof read to find the problems.

Didn't read past the change from 1st to 3rd person.
