It was another half-hour or so before they made it to the parking lot, what with all the well-wishers and other folk milling around. When they finally escaped, their dad said, "We're going to swing back by the house so you can pick up your car before we go to dinner, son."

Perplexed, Aaron asked, "How come?"

"We've got a little graduation surprise for the two of you, even though you said you wanted to skip the one at the community college next week. It'll be easier to go in two vehicles."

Intrigued, Aaron shrugged and they piled into the family sedan for the short trip home and then Aaron followed them to the fancy restaurant a couple of towns away. The dinner was excellent, although their parents kept teasing them with casual, vague mentions of the mysterious gift. When the meal was finally done, their mom said, "Why don't you two ride together and follow us to the surprise?"

Doing as bidden, Aaron and Jess climbed into his car as their parents drove off in the opposite direction of the way home. "Do you know what this is about?" Jessica asked.

"I assume it's something college-related, since we're both matriculating here in a few months, Ms. Track Scholarship," Aaron mused. "I kind of expected them to get you a car, but unless we're going to a dealership to pick it up I don't know why they didn't just bring it home."

Jess laughed a little and said, "I was thinking along the same lines; hauling us all the way out here to give me a car doesn't seem to track."

They soon pulled into a neighborhood and their parents parked along the curb in front of what appeared to be a duplex, or maybe a quadplex. There was a lone car parked in the driveway, but it didn't look like a great candidate for a gift, since it had 'Just Married' painted on the rear window.

When they were all gathered on the sidewalk together, their parents yelled, "Surprise!"

Still somewhat baffled, Jess pointed at the newlywed Nissan and quipped, "You got me a husband?"

Their dad laughed but their mom slapped him on the arm and said, "Don't be silly, Jess." She pointed at the building and said, "We decided to get the two of you a place to stay off campus, since it's too far to be a convenient commute every day, and since you've been getting along so much better recently. There's not much furniture yet, but you two can start moving in whenever you like. Let's go take a quick tour!"

The building turned out to house four units, all of which were other students at the university, and it transpired that the neighborhood was mostly inhabited by their future schoolmates. The apartment itself was on the small side, but it was clean and well-maintained. "I think we should keep them," Jess said, "They look clean enough. No reason to buy new stuff for a college house."

After a little more poking around, their dad said, "Well, we figured you two might want to just sit and inhabit your new space for a little while without the old folks around. So we'll hit the road and you guys can follow whenever you finish making your master plans for wrecking this place and blowing our security deposit."

Their mother gave him another slap on the arm before they all hugged goodnight and their parents departed, leaving their kids with the keys and reminders to behave.

"This is way better than I was expecting!" said Jessica, throwing herself onto the couch gleefully.

"For real!" Aaron agreed. "We can walk or jog to school easily enough, and I saw a shopping center just down the road."

"Best of all," Jess smiled slyly, "We won't have to sneak around the dorms and navigate nosy roommates in order to have a good fuck."
