Izzy and Emily

Izzy spoke again, "Emily, I have another small thing for you."

"You've given me too much already."

"Okay, I'll keep it." I started to pout and the rest of them were smiling at me. Izzy handed me a small ball of tissue paper tied at the top with a ribbon. I pulled the ribbon undone and opened the paper to reveal a key attached to a simple chrome-plated key ring that said 'Emily'. I was puzzled.

"That looks like the key to your flat." Izzy nodded, "But why?"

"So that you can open the door of course." She grinned again, "You can't wait for me to open the door for you every day can you?"

"What? I don't understand." This made no sense, but then it turns out that I was having a dumb moment.

"If you move in you'll need a key."

"Move in, like live with you. You aren't serious?" Everyone else laughed and I turned to them, "Did you lot know about this?" Everyone nodded. I was stunned.

"Dad, what do you think? Did you know?"

"Yes, I did. Izzy phoned me to ask my opinion. I'm not sure if she was asking for my permission, but yes we talked about it. You don't have to say yes you know."

"You must have had a lot more whisky to drink than I thought. Are you crazy? I love her." I grabbed Izzy, we hugged and kissed. I whispered my thanks in her ear.

When I looked at Jane she was smiling. "Thank god, I get my flat back again. You should hear her snoring."

"I don't snore." I retorted with a snort.

They all laughed again. What a day!
