"Okay now show me your smile," Julie said grinning at me as soon has her husband had gone upstairs.

"Me?" I asked stupidly.

"Just show her before Marc comes back," Cassie said. "I tried to explain it to her but it much better if she sees it herself."

"I'm not sure I remember how," I said feeling self-conscious when Cassie put me on the spot.

"If you do it for me I'll make it worth you while tonight," Cassie said in a musical voice and the smile spread across my face involuntarily after that.

"Oh Cassie that is nice," Julie said with a little giggle. "You're lucky I'm stuck with your brother or you might have some competition," she said overstating it to make me even more uncomfortable.

"Are you mad at me now?" Cassie asked still sputtering through her own giggles.

"Yes," I said but when they started to laugh harder my own smile gave me away.

"It's not like I told her my pet name for you," Cassie teased.

"What is it?" Julie asked at once but Cassie gave me an apologetic look that told me she hadn't meant to let that slip out.

"Oh I can't give that away. I never should have brought it up," she said.

"It's okay I've heard plenty about you tonight Rick and you sound like a wonderful man," she said. "Neither of us grew up with a sister but she's been the best sister in law I could have asked for. You better keep doing what you've been doing or you'll have me to answer to."

"And me," Marc said having come down from upstairs to join us again. The message was perfectly clear; they liked me well enough right now but if I hurt Cassie that would change quickly.

"Would you two stop it?" Cassie said looking completely annoyed with them.

We spent the next hour chatting over tea, coffee, and dessert. It felt great to get to know another couple like Marc and Julie. I knew we'd end up doing things with them often and I felt like part of the family around them. Marc in particular was already treating me like an old friend offering to take me with him on a weekend salmon fishing trip and trying to get me hooked on the BC Lions of the CFL. Football was okay but my interest in it died down when LA lost both its teams. Cassie said I had a new home and a new home team now, which was true enough so I agreed to go to game with them.

Madeline woke up and Julie rushed off to feed her leaving us sitting around the dining room table. Marc offered to break the news about me to their parents for us. Cassie thanked him but couldn't let him take the heat for her even though he'd done it many times when they were growing up to spare her their father's strict punishments of chores and groundings. He tried to offer some advice but he really had no idea what she could say. Both of them were certain that their mother Kathleen wouldn't have a problem with me once she got over the initial shock, but their father was always suspicious of men around his daughter. Cassie complained again about her father's unfair double standard when it came to the dating habits of his children. All Marc could do was smile and shrug.

When Julie came back down with the baby in her arms Cassie jumped up to clear the table and I helped her. With Julie trying to gently rock baby Madeline back to sleep, we needed something quiet to do. Marc suggested a game of bridge. I'd never played but they grew up playing it, having learned from their mother soon as they were old enough to grasp the rules. I was paired with Cassie and if I thought they were going to take it easy on the new guy I was wrong. They trounced us three straight times before I figured out how the bidding worked. I thought they were making it up when they told me one person was called the dummy each round and laid their hand face up letting their partner play their cards. My biggest problem was overbidding my hand all the time and getting us in over our heads. Cassie never stopped encouraging me and she beamed with pride when we finally won a round, mostly because I lucked into making a few good plays on the same hand.

After a few more games I could tell they were getting tired. Marc had work early in the morning and Julie looked anxious to get some sleep. We said our goodbyes and invited them to join us for dinner out next week if they could find a babysitter. On the drive home, Cassie asked me what I thought of her brother and his family. They'd been nothing short of fantastic. She was ecstatic that I'd hit it off with her brother and I could tell she desperately wanted us to become close friends. When we pulled into the parking lot at home I reminded Cassie of her promise of a special night, as if every night with her wasn't special.

"Did you still want me to wear my nurse's uniform?" she said giggling as my eyes lit up. We rushed to the building and started kissing as we waited for the elevator. Once we were upstairs she ran off to our bedroom. "Wait until I call you," she said with one last smiling kiss.

"Should we even ask?" Jana said smirking as me as I sat down in the living room.

"No," I said smiling back.

"How was dinner?" Lei asked.

"It was great we really got along," I said. "Marc is a lot like his sister."

"They're all like that. Except her dad," Jana said adding the last part with a taunting smile.

"So I've heard," I said rolling my eyes. I knew, or at least hoped, she was just joking but it was good that she didn't let me get too full of confidence. Before I could say more Cassie summoned me.

"I'm ready Rick," she called from the bedroom.

"Go get her tiger," Lei said as they snickered at me.

"This is what you wear?" I said mystified by the loose fitting baby blue shirt and pants she had on. It looked more like pajamas than a sexy nurse's outfit. Cassie still looked hot in it but it might have rendered a lesser woman completely unattractive.

"What did you think we wore? Those skimpy little white outfits?" she said laughing as I nodded. "No wonder you wanted me to put it on."

"Well take it off now," I said.

"No. You asked for it so here it is," she said teasing me. "What's the matter you don't find me sexy in this?"

"You're always sexy no matter what you wear," I said.

"Oh come on," she said clearly not believing me.

"It's true. Here feel for yourself," I said holding my hands to the side and motioning for her to touch my cock.

Approaching me with a smirk her eyes went wide when she felt the hard cock that lay hidden in my loose pants. Letting go of my cock, she took off the shirt and pants to reveal her naked body beneath and jumped up into my arms kissing me. I carried her to the bed and threw her down stripping off my own clothes. By the time I was naked, my cock was rock hard and eager to get wet. Lying down on the bed between her legs I prepared to get her ready by kissing my way up her leg.

I got to her pussy and it was just starting to get moist. Literally drooling over her beautiful pussy I added some of my saliva to her juices and started to lick all about. Like any woman she loved to have her pussy eaten and I was starting to learn exactly what she liked best. Someday soon I'd have to give her oral sex for a few hours straight, just making her cum and cum and cum again. Her birthday wasn't until late October and there was no way I could wait that long. I could have done it that night but she wanted me inside her once she was warmed up so I did as I was asked.

Making love to her gently, I found myself thinking about kids again. Seeing Cassie with her brother's children, especially her newborn niece, made me realize how much I wanted it. Even though we weren't ready for that yet, a part of me kept hearing her say 'I'd be about three months pregnant with our baby now' over and over again. Everyday I spent with her the tiny amount of regret over her not getting pregnant got just a little bigger but I'd never think of asking her to stop taking her birth control until we were married. Of course that was assuming we would get married some day, an assumption I made all the time now. There wasn't a doubt in my mind that she would one day be my wife. Those were crazy thoughts the first week we spent together but now I embraced them whenever they ran through my mind.

Looking at her full breasts meant for breastfeeding and her hips that widened just enough to be both sexy and practical for childbirth made me think about her as a mother more often than not. That was before you even factored in her incredible sweetness that made her such a loving person. She could feel the love in my kisses that night and might have wondered where it had come from. If she thought for a moment her brother's teasing could scare me off she was dead wrong. It made me want her more than ever. When I erupted inside her at last I did so as if aiming my load with purpose. It was never to early to start practicing something you wanted more than anything.

The next two days we spent helping Jana get everything ready to move. It was a hectic time for all the girls. Cassie was waiting to get her grades back and would be starting work any day now, Jana was moving back home to Red Deer on Wednesday, and Lei who couldn't make up her mind on where she wanted to work had two more interviews during the week. After living together for several years they'd grown extremely close and they were emotional the whole week. Cassie took it hard, even when Jana promised to come visit as often as she could.

On Wednesday afternoon Jana's father and brother were there to help get everything put aboard a moving truck for the long drive home. I was introduced as Cassie's friend who was there to help and no mention was made of me living there the past couple of weeks. When we'd packed up the last of her things into the truck the three girls were hugging each other and crying, even after I was sure the last few days would have left them cried out. Back upstairs in our apartment Cassie and Lei stared at her empty bedroom sobbing some more. I held Cassie and let her cry then told her I'd cook dinner for us tonight.

After we ate both girls were still feeling down. They sat on the sofa watching a movie with a box of tissues between them and I brought them some of their favorite tea. Lei when to bed when it was over because she had to be up for her early interview. Cassie had given Lei her car keys for tomorrow morning so she didn't need to go to bed yet. I sat on the sofa with her, letting her use my lap for a pillow as I ran my fingers through her hair. By the time the show we were watching was over, Cassie was fast asleep. With the volume turned low I flicked the channels for a while. When it became obvious that she wasn't going to wake up on her own, I stood without fully waking her and scooped her up in my arms. There was no way to avoid waking her when it was time to put her in bed though. She lay there rag doll limp and let me undress her with a growing smile.

The following afternoon Cassie got her grades and called the hospital right away. They wanted her to come in on Friday for a day of informal orientation before she started full-time the following week. She looked stunningly beautiful the next day as she went off to work after a barrage of goodbye kisses at the doorway. I spent the day on her laptop and got serious with my job hunt now that I didn't have her beauty to tempt me all day. By the end of the day I'd scoured the city for available jobs in my field. I'd prepared a dozen or more cover letters for the best positions and had plenty of more to get ready next week. I wouldn't be sending any out until I got back so a lot of the positions could be filled by then but it didn't hurt to be ready for those that weren't.

When Cassie got home she was excited to tell me about her day. I sat down as she told me everything she learned on her first day of work. She'd be starting in the rehab ward of the hospital where recovering children were getting ready to go home. I was glad she was given that assignment to start with because she was so sweet and loving that I knew she'd get attached to the kids she was working with. Most of the kids she worked closely with would be on their way to recovery. It's not that I didn't think she could handle working with the dangerously sick kids but I knew she'd be devastated if one of them didn't make it and I hated to see her sad.

The next day we were up early and out of the apartment with a busy day of errands ahead of us. I needed a haircut before going home next week for graduation. Our first stop was a barbershop where Cassie watched intently. From the way she stared I knew there would be trouble for them if she thought they messed up my hair. After that we went to a mall where Cassie looked at dresses for her own graduation. She wasn't ready to buy anything yet mind you but she needed to get out and browse with only a week to go. I was keeping my eyes open for a graduation present for her and was having trouble coming up with something. More jewelry was always an option of course but a bit predictable. Whatever I got her I needed to have it for next Friday when I was flying out in the evening after she got home from work.

We ate lunch in a coffee shop and after that we went to an outdoor concert featuring some small local bands and musicians. It was the kind of thing I'd never think to do alone but when I was with Cassie she always seemed to have something planned. Only an hour into the show it started to rain lightly at first though it soon turned into a heavier downpour with no end in sight. We rushed back to the car laughing as Cassie tried to shield her hair from the rain with her purse. With nothing else to do we drove home to relax for the rest of the afternoon.

"I wish we didn't have to miss each others graduation," Cassie was saying as we walked up to the door. "You better get some nice pictures for me," she warned.

"I will I promise. I can't wait for that week to be over so I never have to leave you again," I said.

"I know," she said looking back at me excitedly as she opened the door. "You moving here has been even better than I imagined it would be. I was a little scared about living together so soon but I love you more than ever."

"Who's your new friend dear?" I heard a woman's voice ask from the living room. Cassie looked like she'd been punched in the stomach. I think she wanted to run and I was ready to follow her. "Cassie?"

"What did you say mom?" she called out.

"I asked who this new man living with you is, the one you just said you loved," she said from the living room.

"Is dad here with you?" was Cassie's next question.

"He'll be back any minute so you better get in here and start explaining while you have a chance," her mother answered.

"Quick come with me Rick," Cassie said dragging me along with her.

"I'm sorry Cassie," Lei said from the sofa. No doubt she'd tried to call Cassie's cell phone to warn us but the battery was dead.

"It's okay it was going to happen eventually. You don't need to be here for this why don't you take my car?" Cassie offered and Lei hurried off looking grateful for the chance to get away.

"Who are you and what are you doing living with my daughter?" Cassie's mom asked me with a forced smile. I could see she was far from happy. I opened my mouth but nothing would come out.

"Mom this is Rick Kellogg," Cassie said introducing me. "Rick this is my mom Kathleen."

"It's nice to meet you Mrs. Dumont," I said.

"How is it that there's a man living with my daughter and this is the way I find out about it?" she asked again.

"Marc already knew," Cassie said trying to share the blame.

"Don't try to drag your brother into this," her mother said showing a flash of anger. "That stopped being cute almost twenty years ago. Now the two of you better sit down and start talking before Marcel gets back."

Cassie opened up and spilled it all out with a flood of tears. She told her mother about our week in Whistler, the months apart, her visit to see me, and the need to be together after that. Her mother listened to it all in silence I wasn't going to speak unless spoken to. When Cassie was done she looked down at the floor as the silence dragged on. Mrs. Dumont looked like someone who has just swallowed a mouthful of something that didn't taste good.

"Anything to add?" she asked me at last.

"I'm sorry you had to find out like this, but I'm not sorry I came here to be with Cassie. I love her too much to be anywhere else," I said.

"Alright then. When my husband gets back let me do the talking and try not to say too much when he asks you a question," her mother said. "I believe you when you say that you love my daughter but so help me God if you make a fool of me for trusting you you'll wish Marcel had done away with you today."

I felt like a man waiting for the executioner to arrive as we waited for Cassie's father to return. My mind was suddenly filled with Tae Kwon Do moves as if I might need them soon to protect myself. It was completely crazy but it did help me calm down. The phone finally rang and Cassie looked at me with a sad smile. No matter what he said or did to me I had to make this as easy on her as I could. I heard him open the door and come in. The few seconds it took him to take off his shoes seemed like an eternity.

"Who's this?" Marcel asked with a glare at his daughter the moment he came into the room. A bear of a man with a graying buzz cut and a clean-shaven square jaw, he was much bigger in person than his photos indicated. I couldn't help but notice the size of his meaty hands. It looked as if he could choke to life out of someone as an after thought. This was the man I had to say 'surprise I'm sleeping with your daughter' to?

"This is Rick daddy," Cassie said in her sweetest voice. That's it sweetie get him in a good mood.

"A new boyfriend?" he asked as if it pained him to say the word.

"Sit down Marcel," his wife said patting the spot beside her. As his wife and daughter filled him in his eyes never left me. Even breathing made me nervous. They started at the beginning and slowly built up to the news that I was living here now. He looked absolutely furious when they were done.

"Is this some kind of joke?" he asked. I knew he was mad because his French accent was coming through. Cassie had warned me that only happened when he was either really happy or absolutely furious and there was nothing for him to be happy about. "Don't you look at me like that," he said to his daughter. His wife tried to calm him down by touching his arm but he shook her off and stood. Pacing the room with purpose he seemed to be getting angrier by the second. "I think it would be best if he stayed wherever he came from after graduation," he said at last.

"No!" Cassie shouted.

"That's enough Cassandra," he said clearly upset with his daughter.

"I can't do that Mr. Dumont," I said in a low voice.

"Speak up if you're talking to me," he snapped.

"I said I can't do that Mr. Dumont," I repeated. He just stared at me as if he was trying to figure out what would make someone say such a stupid thing.

"Did you know about this?" he asked his wife.

"No of course not," she said.

"Where did we go wrong with her?" he asked the air. "You," he said pointing one of his menacing paw-like hands at me. "My daughter is too good for the likes of you but she's stubborn and there's no talking sense into her. When she realizes she's made a mistake you better walk away and forget you ever met her," he warned me.

"That won't happen Mr. Dumont," I said.

"Shut up," he said.

"Yes sir," I said and he scowled at me trying to determine if I was mocking him.

"I'll be waiting in the car," he said glaring at his wife and stomping away.

I looked at Cassie unsure of what to say as her parents left. Her mother lagged behind and gave her daughter a long hug whispering something that made her smile through her tear filled eyes. The front door of the apartment slammed and Kathleen jumped up to rush off after her husband. After nearly thirty years of marriage I'm sure she knew how to calm him down, but he might have reached a new level of anger today. Knowing that my presence had caused it all filled me with guilt.
