"Hello?" I said.

"Hi it's me," she said.

"Oh hi sweetie," I said.

"You need to come to the hospital," she said.

"What are you doing at work on your day off?" I asked.

"Not that hospital," she said.

"The baby is coming?" I asked my heart in my throat. "Are you okay? Where are you now? He wasn't due until next week."

"Take a deep breath," she said in a remarkably calm voice. "Your mom is with me. She'll drive me to the hospital and you can meet us there."

"I'll be right there," I promised. "I love you so much."

"I love you too," she said. "Drive safe and I'll see you soon."

It was May 11th, a Thursday afternoon and almost a full week before the due date. I smiled when I imagined our son being as impatient as we were for a face to face meeting. My boss sent me off to the hospital with well wishes for Cassie and the baby. Remembering Cassie's advice, I drove at the speed limit with tears pooling in my eyes. Once I got to the hospital I raced inside to learn Cassie had arrived and was already in a delivery room. I burst into the room to find Cassie in a bed with my mother standing next to her.

"Are you okay?" I asked racing to her side.

"I'm fine," she said taking my hand. I couldn't resist bending over the bed to kiss her. "Your mom took good care of me."

"I'm so glad you were here," I said to my mother.

"I was more nervous than her," mom assured me. "But now you're here to watch over her."

"Do you want to stay?" Cassie asked her.

"No I'm afraid I'll just get in the way," she said. "I'll meet your family as they arrive in the waiting room. I love you both," she said shedding a few tears as she hugged us.

"Where's Dr. Sun?" I asked as mom left.

"She'll be here soon," Cassie said.

"Soon? But the baby is coming now," I said frantically.

"Breathe deep my love and remember all those books you read. My water broke but the contractions are still far apart," she said.

"So it will be a while," I said.

"Yes," she said.

"Well I've got no where better to be," I said making her laugh.

I held her hand as we talked about the impending birth of our first child. Dr. Sun arrived about half an hour later to examine Cassie. She confirmed that her water had broken and that it would be hours yet based on the contraction spacing Cassie had timed. We settled in for a long wait but with each other for company the time passed quickly. When her parents arrived, Cassie's mother Kathleen came straight to the delivery room to see her daughter.

"Hello sweetheart," she beamed at Cassie.

"Mom," Cassie said her lips quivering.

"My baby girl is about to become a mother," her mom said coming to hug her.

"I can't believe he's almost here," Cassie said.

"It won't be long now. How are you doing?" Kathleen asked looking at me.

"She's keeping me from panicking," I said.

"I'm sure she is but you need to be ready to help her," Kathleen said.

"He is," Cassie assured her and any doubt her mother had evaporated.

"You came straight from work?" her mom asked me.

"Yes as soon as Cassie called me," I said.

"You both must be hungry. I'll send Marcel to get dinner for you," she said.

"There's no need for that," I said.

"It'll give him something to take his mind off worrying," she said.

"Just something light for me," Cassie said.

"What about you Rick? He'll want to get you something too," her mom said.

"I'm not picky," I said. "Whatever he's having is fine."

Less than an hour later our mothers returned with a take out bag with far more food than we asked for, another bag full of ice cold drinks for us to share, and a third with some Jello cups for Cassie to snack on until the baby arrived. Cassie urged me to open one of the meals inside when they left and eat as we anxiously awaited our son to arrive. I was hesitant at first bur she assured me she wouldn't be able to eat until the baby arrived, even if it wasn't forbidden. Dr. Sun checked in at least once an hour and more frequently as Cassie's contractions started coming closer together. It was nearly 9 PM when she stayed for good and we knew Jack would soon be here.

I'll spare you most of the details but blood, sweat, and tears is an apt description. In the midst of the chaos I found myself thinking of our old favorite The Grinch, as I felt my already endless love for my sweet Canadian girl grow. Cassie squeezed my hand until my fingers were numb during the final pushes and I watched our son slide into the world. His piercing cry was the sweetest sound I've ever heard. As they laid him on Cassie's chest she cradled him in a gentle embrace that would never let him fall and smiled at him as tears rolled down her cheeks.

I cut the umbilical cord and watched the nurse lift our son away from Cassie's arms to be weighted and cleaned. Minutes later he was wrapped in a white blanket and returned to where he belonged. I took dozens of photos to commemorate our son's first moments of life outside of the womb and watched the two people I loved above all else with an unbreakable smile. It was my duty to deliver the news to the family but Cassie decided they could wait a little longer.

"I love you so much," Cassie said to me. "You've given me the life I've always dreamed of."

"I love you too," I said leaning over the bed carefully to kiss her forehead. The woman of dreams had become the mother of my child and filled me to bursting with joy.

"Set the camera on the bed my love," she said to me.

"Okay," I said never guessing what came next.

"Now come hold your son and let me take pictures," she said. The experience of being handed our son for the first time, from Cassie's trusting hands to mine was surreal. It was a moment I'd been anticipating since shortly after we met but nothing could have possibly prepared me for it.

"He's so tiny," I said looking into the deep brown eyes he'd inherited from me.

"Easy for you to say," she said making me smile even wider for the pictures she snapped.

"You're the luckiest baby boy in the world Jack," I said. "You have the most wonderful mother there is and a dad that will never stop trying to be her equal. Whatever you do and wherever you go, we'll love you now and forever."

Cassie was happy to let me hold our son for as long as I wanted but I knew there was a waiting room full of loved ones on the edge of their seats. I carefully handed Jack back to his mother and promised I'd be back as quickly as I could. In the waiting room my mother and Cassie's immediate family turned in unison to look at me.

"Jack's here," I said before I was overwhelmed with handshakes, hugs, and well wishes. My time in the waiting room became a blur until my father in law told me to get back to my wife and son.

We took turns holding baby Jack until he fell asleep in Cassie's arms after his very first breastfeeding. The hospital had a crib in the room for us to place him in but Cassie held him until she needed to get up to pee. I laid our son gently in his bed and helped Cassie get out of hers. She returned from the bathroom far too excited to sleep yet despite the ordeal of giving birth. We talked softly to avoid disturbing our son's rest and together we devoured another of the meals her father had brought for us. The staff left fresh blankets for the bed and though I was prepared to sleep in the chair, Cassie insisted I share the bed with her.

Dr. Sun was back early the next morning to conduct a full examination of mother and child. Though both were perfectly healthy, she recommended we spend another night in hospital as Jack was born late the previous night. Rather than letting my mother stay at our house alone, Cassie's parents had spent the night there too and they returned the following morning, their bond as grandparents to Jack drawing them closer together. My father was due to arrive this afternoon but the other grandparents took turns meeting Jack for the first time. Kathleen went first followed by my mother, each making Cassie cry with their loving words for the new mom. Then it was Marcel's turn to visit his daughter and grandson. Watching him gently cradle Jack in his gigantic hands was one of the sweetest things I've ever seen.

"Hello Jack Richard," he said the joy of the experience bringing out his French accent. "We're going to have so much fun together little J.R.," he added giving our son a nickname he's used for him ever since.

"Thank you for the food yesterday dad," Cassie said smiling at her father.

"Anything for you," he said. "Both of you," he said glancing at me. "No all three of you now," he said smiling down at his newest grandchild. "Anything."

"We appreciate that," I said sincerely.

"You know when I look at you Rick, I can't understand how I didn't love you from the start like this little guy here," he said.

"All of that's in the past," I said. He handed baby Jack back to Cassie and gave me a crushing hug that reminded me of where my wife had learned her own tight hugs.

Our mother's returned soon after Marcel left and chatted with Cassie as she nursed our son. There was no awkwardness at all in front of the grandmothers but I told mom to make sure dad knocked when he arrived. I doubt Cassie cared who happened to be in the room as she fed the baby but I knew my father wouldn't feel comfortable. When Jack fell asleep again, his grandmothers departed the room and I sat in the chair to let Cassie rest with a promise to wake her up if the baby stirred. Jack woke up and took another nap before my father arrived to meet his first grandson.

"Dad," I said meeting him at the door. "Come in."

"Hi Gordon," Cassie smiled at my father with Jack cradled in her arms. "Your grandpa Kellogg came a long way to see you Jack," she said in soft voice.

"Hi Jack," dad said as he stepped closer to the bed. "I brought you this," he said reaching into a bag to pull out a tiny blue Dodgers hat and matching baby sized t-shirt.

"Thank you dad," I said smiling at his gifts for his grandson.

"Oh how cute. We'll get pictures of him in it later for sure," Cassie said. "You hold him Gordon and stand next to Rick. Wait pass me the camera. Okay smile," she said needlessly adding the request for us to smile.

We chatted with my father for a few minutes while he held his grandson as gently as Marcel had. Rather than overwhelming us with guests and a newborn, Susan and Brian were planning a visit during the summer with their little daughter Rebecca but they'd sent along baby gifts and Susan wanted me to email pictures as soon as possible. Our first full day as new parents was filled with joy and before I knew it we were falling asleep side by side in Cassie's hospital bed.

The next day we brought our son home where both sets of grandparents were waiting. Cassie was happy to have them stay as long as they pleased and shockingly made no protest at all when her mother and mine promised to handle the cooking and cleaning duties for the duration of their visits. Poor little Jack became cranky from being passed from one set of hands to the next. After changing his diaper and setting him in his crib to rest, Cassie wanted to take a bath. I let her sit in the soothing water and sat on the floor next to the tub facing towards her. Having just given birth, she still looked pregnant which left me thinking about doing this again and again.

That Sunday was Mother's Day and I needed to sneak away to get flowers for her. I already had a card and gift picked out that I was planning to give to her, never expecting that Jack would arrive in time though. Early in the morning, when Jack had gone back to sleep after Cassie fed him and she was in bed herself resting I made a quick trip to a florist. I picked an arrangement for Cassie and another for my own mother. With Cassie's mom staying with us I couldn't leave her out of course so three Mother's Day flower arrangements it was.

"Where were you?" Cassie asked when I came back to the bedroom to find her sitting up feeding Jack again already.

"I had to go get something," I said.

"Rick," she said.

"What? It's Mother's Day today and you're a mother now," I said.

"I already have the only Mother's Day gift I'll ever want right here," she said gazing down at our son.

"Well it was Jack who wanted to get a gift for you but he's too young to drive so I had to pick it up for him," I said.

"Already just like your dad," she said smiling down at Jack.

"I didn't know you'd be up yet though. I'll be right back," I said giving her a kiss on the cheek.

"The flowers are beautiful," she said when I came back.

"Jack got you this too," I said.

"Thank you," she said lightly stroking Jack's head and looking into my eyes.

"Here let me hold him," I said. She opened the card first where I'd written 'Happy Mother's Day, Love Jack' with a little heart after his name. It made her eyes fill with tears. Then she opened her gift and the tears overflowed.

"Oh it's so beautiful," she said. It was a charm bracelet that had two red hearts surrounding a charm that said mom on it and another heart shaped charm with Jack engraved on it and the emerald birthstone for May. What I'm sure she liked most of all was the space to add many more charms after Jack's. "I love it."

"You hear that Jack? Mommy loves your gift," I said looking down at him. Cassie shook her head at me as she got out of bed.

"I love you so much my darling husband," she said kissing me.

"I love you too," I said kissing her back.

The weeks with our parents in our home ended far too quickly. They were wonderful times except for the painful goodbye with my parents. Then a few weeks later my paternity leave ended and I found myself wondering what I'd ever found appealing about work. I talked to Cassie every lunch break at first and always called before leaving to see if she needed anything on my way home. As part of our daily routine, I'd care for our son as soon as I got home to give Cassie a chance to relax which usually meant a soak in the tub or a short nap.

Once baby Jack was a couple of months old, I'd often come home to find Cassie introducing him to another person that hadn't met him in person yet. Other days, Julie or Lei or any of Cassie's many close friends might be visiting with my wife and son. The joys of parenthood were intoxicating and we never grew tired of having guests visit our son. Even when Jack wouldn't stop crying in the middle of the night, we'd take turns gently rocking him until he finally calmed down and then smile at him together once we set him back in his crib.

On top of caring for a newborn while I worked, Cassie still kept the house absolutely spotless. I tried asking her to take it easy but she insisted that she was careful to not over do it. She had also started working out at home, determined to shed the baby weight which troubled me even more. I broke down in tears telling her how beautiful she was just the way she was. Cassie comforted me, saying she knew I didn't care about her baby weight. Her concern was for her long term health so I let it go with a final plea to pace herself. By the end of the summer she was within a few pounds of her per-pregnancy weight and beginning to get frisky again.

We had a few quickies here or there as lust for each other overcame us while the baby slept. I was attracted to the mother of my child as strongly as ever but controlled myself, letting her be the one to initiate sex in the months after giving birth. As Jack began sleeping longer bit by bit, we found ourselves with slightly more alone time which usually meant a nap with the baby monitor ready to wake us if Jack made a sound in his crib.

"There you are," I said finding Cassie next to Jack's crib smiling down at him when I came home from work one day.

"I just put him down to sleep. Look how cute he is," she gushed.

"He's sleeping like a baby," I said without thinking and Cassie started to laugh at a joke I didn't mean to make. His eyes opened briefly at the sound of his mother's laughter but he faded back to sleep moments later.

"We're going to wake him up again," she said taking my hand and leading out of the nursery room.

"It's okay I don't mind," I said.

"But Jack need his rest and I need this," she said squeezing my cock through my pants.

"If you're ready," I said.

"Of course I'm ready. I said I needed it and I meant it. I'm not pregnant anymore either so no more holding back. I want to feel your love in every thrust," she said.

"A mother shouldn't talk like that," I said. This time I was trying to make her laugh and she didn't hold back.

"You haven't heard anything yet," she said leading me to our bedroom.

I undressed while trying to watch Cassie shed her own clothing. Her breasts, with darker nipples and heavy with with milk, were the only obvious sign of motherhood that remained. If I looked closely I could pick out stretch marks on her stomach and inner thighs but I'd shown her in our first days together that scars did absolutely nothing to detract from her beauty in my eyes. To make sure it was forever clear in her mind, I placed soft kisses on them before anything else when we made it to the bed naked.

After those kisses she guided my lips to hers to trade kisses full of love. Cassie would never doubt my attraction to her but she still appreciated me showing it. She wanted me to fuck her like I did before the birth of our child but changes were necessary. There was no time for me to cum and wait for her to make me hard again. I fucked her hard and fast to the brink of my own orgasm and pulled out to eat her pussy. Back and forth between fucking and licking I strove to give Cassie ever bit of pleasure she deserved. When it was time for use to cum together I flooded her with a shuddering groan that made her smile and I knew without asking that she was already hoping to get pregnant again.

Days and weeks with our new son went by far too quickly. He grew so fast and learned new things all the time, like how to crawl or recognize our faces. Cassie was permitted to take up to a year of maternity leave but was torn between caring for our son and missing the kids at the hospital. It was late September before she agreed to let Marc and Julie babysit Jack for a few hours to give us time to go out for dinner and a movie. Slowly she became more comfortable leaving Jack with Julie or her mother. I was surprised when she told me she planned to start working again a few days week to ease back into it. Her mom came to stay with us when Cassie worked to care for Jack. Necessary or not, neither of them wanted it any other way.

"They're here," Cassie called when the doorbell rang.

"I'm coming," I said hurrying upstairs to greet our guests. "Don't put too much pressure on them," I warned with a smile.

"I won't," she promised before I opened the door.

"Hi Jay come on it. Emily it's nice to see you again," I said. In the months since the birth of our son, Jay had started dating Emily. Between Cassie and I, I joked that he waited until his sister was too distracted with a newborn to interfere which made her smile.

"Hi Emily," Cassie said greeting her red haired friend with a hug.

"Hi Cassie," Emily said. "Are you sure you had a baby in May?"

"Yes I'm sure," my wife giggled. "He's taking a nap but you'll get to meet him soon enough."

Jay had already seen his nephew a dozen times or more of course but introducing Emily to the rest of the family, including baby Jack, was an important step in their relationship. I'd grown close with Jay since marrying his sister and was happy to see him fully recovered from his painful breakup. At times I found myself watching Emily for any possible red flags but obviously Cassie wouldn't have introduced them if there were any. They were a joy to be around as a couple and both enjoyed the day with our son. Emily said what everyone did, that Jack was the cutest baby and Cassie smiled never growing tired of the compliment. When they left I said next time we should invite Marc's family too, which Cassie couldn't agree with more.
