“Our people will not accept her. What will you do then?”
“They accept Sky Eyes and she is white. I will teach her the ways of our people and she will become one of us. She is my destiny, Father.”
Medicine Bull nodded, knowing full well he would be unable to dissuade his stubborn son. “I hope your decision is the right one. I still ask you to consider taking a Cheyenne wife. Big Pine has said his daughter favors you.”
Ignoring the comment of Big Pine’s daughter, Night Wolf gazed back at his lodge. “Father,Ma'heo'o would not steer me wrong. I believe that firmly.”
“So be it,” Medicine Bull replied before he re-entered his lodge, closing the flap behind him. Night Wolf sighed heavily. He knew his father would not be pleased, but he hoped his father would hear him out and listen to reason. Rubbing his face, he returned to his lodge and entered it. It made him happy to see that Falling Water had started a fire and was washing the mud and feces from her skin. She glanced up at him, her brow furrowing. He knew she wanted to communicate with him, but he vowed to never let on that he understood and could speak in her white tongue. Her willingness to learn and adapt would either make or break her. Night Wolf longed for the former. He needed her to succeed here. Though he’d only known her for a very short time, he loved her more than anything.
Night Wolf knelt beside and took the scrap of hide from her hand, and wrung it out within the birch bowl she’d filled with tepid water. He washed her face thoroughly and helped her out the ruined shirt. Tossing it aside he dug into a pouch and pulled out one of his spare shirts and pulled it over her body. He liked how her cheeks flushed a rosy pink. Then he led her back to his parent’s lodge and entered it. He sat her down near the fire, turning to his mother. “Náhko'e, watch over my woman until I return.”
She nodded, graciously before offering Ione a share of the venison stew in a birch bowl, coaxing her to eat with a soft command. Ione accepted the bowl and a spoon made out of bone and began to eat. She watched as Night Wolf left the lodge and wondered when he would return. With a sigh, she ate the stew, savoring the herb infused broth, the chucks of root vegetables and the flavorful pieces of venison. It was better than her mother’s. Silently, Ione grieved, closing her eyes to stem the flow of tears that threatened to fall.Someday, she vowed,Somehow she’d learn the fate of Samantha and John. Someday.

Anonymousalmost 15 years agoI love reading online historical romances, especially those with properly written love scenes without the disgusting terms (like 'cunt' or 'cum', for example) that ruin the drama of it, and is better than the smut I keep running across on some sites while searching for a good read such as this. This should be posted on www.fanfiction.net's sister site www.adultfanfiction.net, or, better yet, published as a book, it's that tasteful.
What would happen if, in future chapters, Ione/Falling Water were to bear Night Wolf's child who would one day be chief of the tribe? The Cheyenne medicine regarding childbirth can easily be found on Google Books, if you want to look into that. Keep up the good work. (:

Anonymousabout 15 years agoI love the story but it is harder to read with the realistic words added here and there. If you want to use them, maybe after each of the words you can put the English translation in (); for example Nénáasêstse (come here). It is hard to read when you have to keep going to the top of the page to understand the meaning.
