I closed and locked the door, and heard her head down the brick stairs to my driveway, crying more loudly now. I heard her car door slam shut, the engine start, then she was gone.

ScottieDog61Reduxover 1 year agoAuthor@ anubelore -- Having Amanda turn up at his doorstep was the culmination of hints his daughter Elise suspected was a problem in Amanda and Walter's relationship. Walter is a douchebag, plain and simple, and the real villain of the piece, and Amanda knowingly threw her hand in with his, wanting more excitement and sexual acrobatics. She got what she deserved...as did Gretchen.

Other than that...nicely done. Even managed to make me feel a bit badly for Amanda, but that may be because Walter ended up not suffering much at all compared to her. And he was just as much a POS as she was. Worse, in some ways.

Regarding the alimony, Doug and Walter would have had to pay alimony, which would have impacted them both, as well as incurring additional legal fees and making things messy for all concerned. Since both men in the story made similar amounts, it was a wiser move for both to eschew alimony and additional legal hassles.
