For whatever reason Svetlana had not gone with her parents and now she had seen the truth. She gave a cry, said something that sounded like swearing, but given in was in Ukrainian I couldn't be sure, then turned on her heel and fled.
I definitely did swear. "Oh fuck, we've blown it," I groaned. "She'll never come anywhere near us now."
"Shit," muttered Georgia. I couldn't remember her using ever the mildest bad language before. Even the normally ebullient Millie looked worried.
Would Svetlana say anything to her parents? Was it possible to recover this situation? Had I lost my chance with her? At that moment, none of us had any answers.
